I was talking to a friend about the JW's being apart of the UN as an NGO.
She didn't like it, and was upset about. Rang up bethel (in Australia) and inquired about it. He said when they joined, the rules and regulations that they agreed to were lenient and the reason why they left because the rules changed -- agreeing to were changed is because they demanded the JW's to agree to too many things like supporting the UN -- just like in the letter that Paul Hoeffel (sp?) when he was answering the UN inquiry.
So my friend is saying that when they joined in 1992, the rules were ok and they had to back out because they didn't want to support the UN and therefore the Jehovah's Witnesses are not guilty of anything.
So! What I am asking you people on here is to supply me with information as proof (web site, scanned letter, email address I can contact) that when they joined the UN in 1992 -- the rules were bad then and unsuitable to join just like in 2001! Because I am sick of her letting off the WTBTS lightly! It's not fair! I need proof that whenever they joined the rules were always inappropriate! I hope you understand what I mean!! If not I'll explain again!! For sure. I am sorry the way I am writing is not so good today. I don't feel all that well. Had to take some time off work. Yeah, I just want to do a - "See! Told ya so," to her! To shut her up once and for all. I get so sick of her supporting the WTBTS -- she is so supportive even though she doesn't go herself and has her bad experiences like me! It's so crap!!!!
I have enjoyed my time on this message board. So good. You people are so normal! :D ha ha ha I am dealing with the real world! :) Keep up the good work!

The UN says that at the time the WTS signed up the rules were the same as today.
The WTS says that the rules changed.
One of the two are lying... I'm inclined to think it is the WTS who is lying. I'd be willing to bet good money that the WTS is not willing to release a copy of the documents they signed.

And if they did, it would only prove that the UN was lying. Of course, the WTS would never want to prove that one of Satan's earthly representatives was persecuting them....

Caution: the Watchtower did not JOIN the UN. Never ever ever use the "join" word when talking to a JW over this issue. The reason is that only countries join the United Nations.
Instead in 1991, the Watchtower as an NGO, voluntarily applied to the UN's Department of Public Information for accreditation as an "associated" non governmental organization and voluntarily agreed to support the UN charter (which allows for war et. al.) and voluntarily agreed to disciminate UN information. In 1992, the UN's Department's of Public Information committee reviewed the Watchtower's application and reference and then accredited the Watchtower as an "associated" non government organization with the United Nations Department of Public Information.
Besides the UN site please click on the following url link for further information. I scanned the old 1968 UN ECOSOC prescribed requirements for NGOs who are applying to the UN's DPI etc. You will note and read the pages what the WTS had to voluntarily agree to. There is also the 1992 press releases which show what the approved and accedited NGOs voluntarily agreed too.

I'll tell her about this... :( She'll probably say that UN is lying, but in any case, if the UN was so bad, why would the library be so important! I said to her, "couldn't they have gone to the New York State library instead?" She agreed with me that any association for all intents and purposes is a dangerous and shouldn't of happened in the first place.
I think to myself "you can't trust the UN IF you think it's that bad!" I wouldn't go within 100 km of that place! But senseless Watchtower men walked right into that building (the devil's building from "their eyes") and walked right in a trap.
She agrees with me that joining the library is a dangerous thing. But always has that argument of "someone's lying." :(
Sorry I don't have time to reply anyone else now. There was something else I wanted to say. But I think it's basically all cleared up. I'll talk to her about it.
So stupid the whole thing. I dont' know about you people, but I consider this WT UN thing to be absolutely tragic! :( Brings me to tears, but that's me... -

I strongly recommend that you review all of the facts clearly in this case. There is a lot of daming stuff that needs to be read by you such as Steve Bates newpaper articles in the Tablet and Guardian, the ECOSOC rules for the partnership etc.
Also please remember I have provided copies of all of the old UN DPI directory books showing the former Vice-president Barry and now president Don Adams (love that name ... hey Chief where is the "cone of silence" - snicker) names confirming the WTS's involvement.
Remember .. this was not about "joining" a library. This was a "partnership" (their words) with the scarlet coloured wild beast where the WTS voluntarily agreed to support the UN Charter and diseminate UN information to allow the WTS access to UN functions and its building.
