Very interesting article from FL, a 25 yoa woman worked as a day care worker at a church and was terminated when she announced she was pregnant and unmarried. She sued for wrongful termination. The court said it can't interfere with the church's morality policy.

If property appealed in a higher court, this can be overturned. The reason is that higher courts have already ruled that a religious organization cannot discriminate against it's employees.

Yes, a religion can toss out any volunteers (such as the case with the WTS), but any church that legally employs a person cannot discriminate against that person because of all of the employee protection laws.

Elsewhere is right. That's why Catholic Charities in LA is forced to pay for it's employee's contraception, even though Catholics think it's immoral.

Right... the distinction is that the employee is not a member of the church, just an employee. This means that the person is in no way bound by the religious beliefs of the church. The fact that the employer forced the employee to sign a morality clause could be used by the employee to show religious discrimination on the part of the employer... something VERY illegal. I'm amazed that the woman's lawyer did not go down that path!

By reading the full article it sounds like the plaintiff may have made the mistake of bringing religion into the case, which is why the judge threw it out. If she can appeal the case using 100% secular reasoning, then she will have a fighting chance.

When in a legal battle with any religious organization, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER even mention religion! The instant you do that the case will be tossed out. Keep everything secular like you are suing Wal-Mart.
