hypocrisy

Well my beef for the day is this. My mother, who claims to be a faithful dub, attends weddings and funerals in other churches, but she sits down when we are supposed to stand (ie, when a prayer is being said, when the bride is walking down the aisle, etc.). She is proud of herself for "making a stand". I am not religious myself, but geez, I am able to observe basic polite behavior. People are praying to their God or worshiping....if I wasn't able to be respectful and polite, I wouldn't attend. I wouldn't dream of attending and then purposely being rude and disrespectful.

Here's the hypocritical point: This same woman gets ALL her clothes from the Rescue Mission and Salvation Army 2nd hand stores. I pointed out that these are run by churches and the profits go to them. She was already aware but states her conscience allows her to buy there. <vomit..arising..in..mouth...must..stop..now>

Standing while others are praying in their church, which you voluntarily entered, knowing you would be present during their religious ceremony = BAD

Giving money to same churches = GOOD

Hypocritical JWs = PRICELESS (a la American Express commercial)

Ah - 'Conscience' - something that always works to the advantage for dubs some. Clever that.

My mom is wholly opposed to the Salvation Army, will shop at Goodwill and garage sales but not the Salvation Army.

My question is, if you garage sale and your money goes to a pagan, or a baptist, or a catholic, then what? It's a stupid rule.

Same as researching what companies make donations to pro-life vs pro-choice causes, which companies donate to the Red Cross and then deciding whether or not you are going to buy their product.

    Give me a break.

I bumped into an elder coming out of a salvation army store. His eyes got as big as saucers when he saw me. I am sure he was not being a religious hypocrite but only letting his wallet concience be his guide.

My JW girlfriend was in the hospital recently. A number of folks from her cong (even an elder!) visited frequently. They, especially the elder, would pray for her with me in the room. (Hey, they even included me in some prayers, heathen, worldly scum that I am...) They even asked if it was all right for them to do so. I always said no problem and was quiet during the prayer.

As the reverse to your story I quoted above, what do you think would've happened if I would have done something to disrupt their praying? I know telling them it wasn't all right would have prevented the praying but earned me some dirty looks or something. No big deal.

But what if I had laughed at the television (that they left on) or talked on the phone or some such other rude behavior? Would they accept it as turnabout being fair play?

Maybe next time I'll ask for equal time and pray to Baal....

I think we all know this one:

My steak doesn't have blood in it, it's just meat juice!

It’s real easy to take a supposedly conscience related stand when there is nothing to lose. It’s all for show for many anyway.

    ROTFLMAO

With dubs, turnabout is never fair play. I've pointed that very thing out to my mom many times. Does no good, though.

yeah, JW moms don't seem to understand valid points.

at the risk of getting caught i'll tell you what happened to me recently:

after eating lunch with my family after meeting, we got into some talk about blood types, because someone didn't find his medical documents, so i said "why don't you go donate some blood, i'm sure they tell you what type you are", just if it would be the most normal thing on earth.

armageddon broke loose... "are you trying to be funny?" and that stuff, you know. i said, if someone accepts blood fractions, which are made of blood which someone donated instead of pouring it out, then it's only fair to go donate blood too.

even more armageddon broke loose!!! oh my god. their mostly used counter argument was "no! you have to do what the bible says". i don't care what the bible says, but they don't know it, so i said, the bible doesn't say anything about the issue, it's only watchtower teachings.

now armageddon really broke loose... after that i said, what a pity we can't have serious talks about issues like this. response: we can, but you are just not right on that. you gotta read the mags. you do read the mags, do you? i said, why, no.

managed to escape shortly after that, and managed to not come up with a topic like that in the last few days, so i'm alright.
