Had a Visit From Elders

I had just started up the driveway on the way back from the R/C flying field when I saw these two men with ties going up to my front door. My wife let them in before I got out of the car. They were two of the ones I had studied with 40 years ago. I still have feelings of friendship for them. They are good people, I'm so sorry that I got them involved in the JW faith. They came by to invite me to the memorial.

I showed them pictures on my computer of some of the old conventions, some brothers that they knew way back. They seemed to enjoy the visit. There were so many of them dead now that I said that what J.F. Rutherford said way back in the early 1900s about millions now living will never die sure wasn't true. They never said anything, just laughed with me.

I just may go to the memorial just to see how many are still there that I knew. I never had any problems with any one while I was in the congregation, probably because I was the head honcho before I left.

Thanks for sharing this story. From what you wrote you seem to have a peaceful outlook on those things. :-). Must feel really wierd to have so many friends/ex-friends now dead who trusted the truth will have given them eternal life by now.How many generations more will outlive the WTS prophecies, I wonder? Well, I guess it's none of my business now :).

I hadn't thought about it, but both of them are getting old now. I was young when I studied with them and I have been out for 30 years and studied with them probably ten years before I left. They sure look young to be in their sixties. Wow how time flies.

Undecided, if you decide to go to the Memorial, I feel it only fair to warn you that, if you haven't been for several years, you'll be shocked at the change in the talk. It used to be about how the Passover began when the Israelites fled Egypt, it was about Jesus, his betrayal, the Last Supper and His death.

Now, they spend about 3 minutes on Jesus, nothing on his betrayal or dying for us, and the rest is focused on the identity of the 144,000. It's changed completely and it's not like it used to be.

You're kidding me... Well, I guess I'm not surprised by this given that they seemed to have no qualms in changing things around to suit them in His own bible, why not change the meaning of the memorial of the last supper too?

    The arrogance astounds me...

    Mary,

I'll listen to the one I gave that I have recorded from way back and I will see the difference, that is if I can make myself go. I kind of wanted to see the new KH anyway after it was finished.

I told them about the Spanish JW who killed his three children, wife and himself at the KH where my daughter moved in Rock Hill SC. She is not a JW and never attended that KH. They just said how bad the world is now, I should have said they weren't part of the "world" but the new world society. I didn't think quick enough.

    Ken....your a good man

You were friendly and showed them hospitality. Had you debated at that time their entire visit would have proved nothing but made some bad memories. I think you did the right thing as there is a time and a place for debating. Since they were old friends and your on good terms with them, handling it the way you did worked out well.

probably because I was the head honcho before I left.

Ken.....you served as PO? ...............................you bastard you!

    Hugs buddy,

[edited to add]...I wish I could go simply to see old friends and watch people and observe the nonesense, but I cannot let anyone think I'm intrested in returning , plus it pisses me off to be shunned. I hope nobody follows up on your attendence Ken......or it will come to a debate/confrontation as to where you stand. Good Luck my friend.
