In yesterday's study article "Finding One Pearl of High Value" par.13 the society uses the Vine's Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words as a authoritative source to add weight to the meaning of the word "press" and pressing forward. Next they refer to the Bible scholar Heinrich Meyer and quoted his thoughts on Matthew 11:12. Just who is this Bible scholar ? A little research drew my attention to the Watchtower's official web site, and at the end of their article on "Should You Pay Your Taxes?" I found this foot note:
Jesus' counsel to pay "Caesar's things to Caesar" was not necessarily limited to paying taxes. ( Matthew 22:21 ) The Critical and Exegetical Hand-Book to the Gospel of Matthew, by Heinrich Meyer, explains: "By [Caesar's things] . . . we are not to understand merely the civil tax, but everything to which Caesar was entitled in virtue of his legitimate rule."
Heinrich Meyer was a german protestant who studied at Jena and eventually became(1841 )pastor and superintendent at Hanover. He is listed on the Preterist site as writer of a Commentary on the New Testament.( 1852) Thats right, a long dead member of christendom, whose writings are still read today, and even Quoted on the Official Web Site of the Watchtower, and in their Official journal "The Watchtower".
I believe we have a Delima on our hands. This same Official "Watchtower" magazine back in August of 1981:
"From time to time, there have arisen from among the ranks of Jehovah's people those, who, like the original Satan, have adopted an independent, faultfinding attitude...They say that it is sufficient to read the Bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home. But, strangely, through such 'Bible reading,' they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago..." The Watchtower, August 15, 1981. (Emphasis added)
Heinrich Meyer was one of Christendom's clergy class that wrote commentaries 150 years ago and taught what the society would call apostate doctrines. By Quoting Meyer, and the works of William Edwy Vine,(of Vine's Expository Dictionary of old and New Testament Words) By the way, Vine was a vocal OPPOSER of Jehovah's Witnesses,.called many of their teachings heresies, and was also pastor at Manvers Hall Church in Bath for 40 years, and as such also one of Christendom's clergy . By quoting these men and their works, aren't the writers of the "Watchtower" also
reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom's clergy were teaching 100 years ago..." The Watchtower, August 15, 1981. (Emphasis added)
Makes you wonder: Why is it OK for the "Watchtower", but not for those who read it?
