I just got this e-mail, and I'd like to give the guy an answer. Can anyone tell me the recent policy?

Hi maybe you can help me. My name is Xxxxxx and I am a totally blind Braille user and have been blind sense birth. I was raised in the Jehovah's witnesses
and I was discouraged from getting any education past high school even though I was a good student. No one encouraged me to go for a career, in fact,
some of them told me that I could just do secretarial work. I have sense left because I never was baptized I am now a university student with a 3.75 GPA.
I was also not allowed to progress through the books at more than a snails pace and I was never allowed to go out in service. I questioned things a lot
though. My Grandmother wanted me to try to go to bethel when I was younger but the congregation elders said that bethel would not take me no matter what
because I was blind. I would like to know if you could explain to me the Jehovah's witnesses policies toward the blind and disabled and what their roles
are supposed to be. How are the elders instructed to council parents of blind youth and blind adults on career and life choices? I would appreciate the
    help. Thanks.

Only mental disabilities -- absence of critical minds, sommon cense dyslexia, skepto-castratia -- are allowed. Full lobotomies no problem, "evil slave"-phobia a plus.

When I was a JW, one of my good friends was blind. They had made him a Ministerial Servant, and unlike this person, he was not only allowed to go out in FS, but he was a regular pioneer. As regards to him getting a career/job, he was pretty much on his own and he had a hard time at it. The congregation didn't help in any way. They only time they offered to help was to make sure he had a ride to the meetings, and everyone felt the need to invite him to all the gatherings. Being blind AND a regular pioneer really put him in the "he's such a good role model" category, and you know once you get there you're in the in crowd. But I was happy for him at the time, like I said, he was my friend and I liked that people were so friendly as to have him over to their houses all the time. But if he wasn't a pioneer, I don't know how much of that would of occurred, because people always said they knew how broke he was not working fulltime in order to pioneer--people felt sorry for him alot. You know, the conditional "love" that easily disappears under the right circumstances. We've all seen it, and if the Lord wills it, he'll see it one day and hopefully come out (after learning about the other 123,231 things that are wrong with the WT).

But overall, he was expected to follow all JW rules just like everyone else. Here's your paddle kid--now row!!!

hey kent! good to see you again, hope holiday is going well.

i dont know current policy but my father is legally blind. he used to do the literature but since his eyes have gotten bad, he no longer does it. not sure if he was asked to step aside or it is was his decision. he is not completely blind, can still read and see half-assed. just can't drive. i know this doesnt help you with this guy....

anyway, great to have ya back!

    Hello Venice,

I had the same reaction that Simon did - before I read Simon's post. "Wow.......Venice is certainly getting snuggly with Kent......."

Naturally, we all look for to PICS from Kent. Legal pictures, that is.
