For his initiative, his enthusiasm, and his courage.

The story. My wife and I have just returned from a couple of days in Toowoomba (an inland city west of Brisbane in Oz) and whilst visiting we discovered that the Australian Gospel Music Festival was being held there over easter. For our education we decided to visit the site (no cost involved - only for the music venues, all of which were in the same location spread throughout a large park). As we had expected it was rank with gross commercialization.

But anyhow, the only redeemimg feature was the message a guy was wearing on his t shirt. Although I didn't write it down, in effect the message was -

"If you don't believe your god is a murderous and malevolent thing, then you haven't been reading and understanding your bible correctly." I just had to introduce myself and congratulate him - he certainly was taking it right up to their faces.

cheeses. reflecting on a fine moment.

Yeah. It takes a lot to stand up for truth, especially when you are putting yourself on the line against the beliefs of a "great crowd". I'd have congratulated him, too.

He has taken lives though. No problem with that. He is allowed to. We are not gods. He is the God.

What exactly is a "god" and why does it have the right to kill whomever it wishes?

Your statements sounds a lot like what Saddam's loyalists say when asked about all of the people he murdered. "He was, after all, the rightful president of Iraq. If someone opposes him, what else but being killed could they expect?"

And what does Saddam Hussein have to do with any of this? He is just a nut. A person who wants to be a god over others.

And how is Jehovah any different from Saddam? After reading the Old Testament, I can't help but conclude that Saddam behaved exactly the same way and claimed the same rights as Jehovah. My point is that the god of the bible behaves exactly like a dictator and your willingness to blindly support this behavior is amazing to me.

I don't care if this deity claims to be "almighty" or "creator of everything" or "eternal". Do you believe everything anyone tells you without challenging the claim?

People dream of a god/goddess that best represents themselves and their needs. I believe that most of the worlds problems- war, slavery, abusive views towards women, child abuse, fanatical religious practices, it goes on and on; can all somehow be traced back to a bible teaching that gives a sweet little story stating why these views are ok to believe.
