Relationship with God

On another thread someone defined spirituality as your relationship with God. I would contend that anyone that thinks he/she has a "relationship" with the deity is fooling themselves. First, you can't imagine an unknowable essence and second, if you try you are dilusional.

    Any thoughts?

Hmmmm.... I feel I have a relationship with God/Creator/The One. I feel the connection often when I am meditating, in prayer, outdoors or just joyful, for example. So I guess you've defined me as delusional. ;)

    Cheers, Carmel!

What then is faith and why have faith? Is having faith delusional?

    Endorphins?

    Many times yes.

All people at some time or another "feel" they are close to and have a "relationship" with "God". No matter your "brand" of religion.

I do believe in a "God", but not the kind represented by organized religion. It's time for "God" to speak up and settle some issues once and for all. I mean why is it all so complicated? God spoke with the ingrate Adam, why not me?

He needs to stop acting like a spook and hiding and playing games with mankind- if He's really interested....

U.D. Is faith delusional? I'm glad you said, 'Many times yes.' The type of work I do requires faith, it involves my life and the lives of others.

One of the requirements people need to have when learning/playing golf and that is, have faith in yourself, trust your talents and abilities.

Spirituality can also mean your pursuit of your internal sense of morality and doing good for others, to accomplish something meaningful in one's life, a sense of calm/peace, a sense of connection to the physical universe and to humanity. IOW, a person need not believe in a diety in order to be spiritual.

    Carmel good topic!

I like the KISS (keep it simple stupid) method......I'm a simple minded person and I can only see and interact with the tangible things on this earth. I think my job while on this earth is to respect myself and all that's around me by doing good and giving back in so where as I can, being limited in abilities and all, you know my imperfect self......sigh.

If this unknowable essence as you call it, I call it the Prime Cause, wants me to know more or be more, than it's up to the PC to communicate this to me, it hasn't unless I want to assume that when I find a better way to respect myself (self improvement) or the earth (less pollutant) I am at one with the Universal plan than so be it. That leaves it up to me to define my reason for being here. I think therefore I am? LOL Delusional, well maybe but no harm comes from doing good eh?

    upsidedown:

God spoke with the ingrate Adam, why not me?

Exactly why not you or me? Who is this God, and is the Bible really HIS word or is it just another story book? If he is as the Bible says our Eternal Father why is he so neglectful and his book so confusing?

    Yes exactly!

For me the verdict is still out on why we are here and until I actually have a conversation with the Prime Cause I'll continue on as I have in having a relationship with tangible entities it works for me. KISS!

I think to each their own. I don't have to justify my faith to anyone.

I will not judge others for what they do or don't believe.
