Where does spam come from?

Lynnfield, MA - Sophos, a global leader in network security, today published the results of its research on the top twelve spam producing countries. Researchers from SophosLabs, Sophos's global network of virus and spam analysis centers, examined all spam messages received at its global network of spam traps from January 2005 through March 2005. Based on the analysis, experts found that the United States topped the Dirty Dozen chart once again, exporting an average of 35.70% of all spam during this timeframe.

I wonder if a similar chart showing internet-connected computers were produced, how would it compare? Might it be that most of the spam is coming from the US mainly because that's where most of the computers are?

I thought for sure that South Africa would be on that list with the amount of people that are over there trying to give me millions of their money that their dying loved ones left for me and I all I have to do is give them my bank account number with some brief identification and they will send me my millions ...

Here?s another one....we have just drew your numbers for the lucky National Internet draw.,...Out of all the millions that use it, you are our lucky winner with the numbers of...bla,bla,bla,bla,bla,bla,bla,bla,bl,bla,bla,bla,bla,.......just give us your account bank number and we will deposit it into your account....

Oh yeah, and I forgot, don?t reply to this e-mail, start a new one in order for us to communicate properly and please do not notify the media because there were a few screw ups in the order of the numbers that were drawn and we want to make it right first....It is top secret till we get your money to you...

I really cannot believe that people get sucked into this scam.....
