Something Pope John II and the WTS have in Common.

I thought this was sadly amusing.

"The church cannot be an association of freethinkers," John Paul said. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20050402/D897FNB80.html ...John Paul also held separate sessions with Dutch and U.S. prelates, summoning them to the Vatican to admonish them for liberal practices, such as questioning priestly celibacy.

    Sound familar??
"When the pope does that which isn't part of his office, he cannot demand obedience in the name of Catholicism. He must expect dissent," nearly 200 theologians from German-speaking countries said in a 1989 declaration.

    Our counterparts!

Yah maybe next simon will start a catholic discussion site with the same format . LOL I do think it strange that the clergy want to blame their immorallity on taking a stinking celibacy vow . If you can't follow the rules then at least do the right thing and resign instead of having forbidden affairs . I do agree tho that the rule is not something that needs to be there anyway .

Heathen, there are those that would tell JWs to just quit their religion if they had homosexual thoughts. Yet many have here have divulged their bitter inner tumoil over this issue. Some had secret experiences that plagued them horribly because of their misplaced loyalty to the WT and it's take on right and wrong. Why? shouldn't they have just quit when they first sensed the desires that their vows forbid?

The The WT's or the Catholic church's control is manifest when conflicted members feel UNABLE to do what appears obvious to disinterested bystanders.

I'm talking about the clergy . They took a vow of celibacy in order to accept their priestly duties . I'm not talking about members of the church , all they gotta do is show up to confession once in awhile according to the catholics . I've never seen anybody excommunicated . Obviously in the bible any form of sexual misconduct is forbidden to christians , not just homosexual stuff either . Fornicators and adulters are all unacceptable as far as the kingdom of the heavens is concerned . Thinking about homosexuality is not near as sick as what the pedophiles do in the catholic church and I think they should give it up and seek some professional help . I know the WTBTS has everybody shunned over things like that so alot of the homos are on the board talking about how unfair it is to lose family over the religion . I've known one j-dub family that had a homosexual son commit suicide , can't say I know for sure the reason tho but think it was about the treatment from his parents . I think that would be very unfair to have your parents dump on you constantly .

In my comment the Catholic clergy were being compared to JWs. The homosexual issue was merely an example of people being conflicted yet straining to remain in a belief system and church structure. To say that the Church was not at least partly responsible for the "scandelous" secrect (hetero or homo)affairs of it's priesthood is to miss the whole control element.

. BTW we were not talking about criminal child abuse. I don't think you were earlier suggesting that priests who want to abuse boys should quit the Church before indulging themselves. That is a separate matter of aberrence.

Another thing they have in common is this: one pope can change what his predecessors have done (doctrine of papal infallibility).

The WT has something called new light in which they can change what their predecessors have done.

peacefulpete--- I was saying the clergy that had the problem of child molestation should quit being a member of the clergy and seek professional help . If they follow through on their sickness they deserve to be shot not just defrocked . I think alot of the kids involved were orphans to begin with and they sure don't deserve being treated that way , they deserve to be protected . As far as the WTBTS is concerned I don't hold it against them for taking measures to preserve some sort of moral integrity inside the church but I don't think homosexuals deserve to have their parents disown them altogether or be insulted and embarrassed by other members . I guess shunning isn't as bad as being insulted all the time . LOL . That's what some churches would do . I don't like the way the homos try to use politics for religionists to accept them as members . I think religion is part of the private sector .

longhairgirl--- I think the catholic church only change things like their violent behaviour toward non believers to some extent . They changed how they converted people by not torturing them into submission , I suppose that's a good thing . I don't think they are willing to change things in order to follow scripture more closely . They just have too many very old traditions . I can think of a list of things that need changing . Infant baptism , worship of marry , idolotry , praying to saints for intervention , the belief of litterally burning in hell , purgatory ,church ordained just war ,trinity doctrine , the belief that pope has the authority of the apostle peter , the belief that the 3 astrologers visited jesus in the manger on december 25 ................... that's for starters .

When I first read this article it caused me to aknowledge that the same struggle with religious organizations is going on elsewhere. I have for the most part, had tunnel vision toward our problems with the WTS. This article reminded me it isn't just us and that intolorance to new thought is not uncommon.
