It has been a long time since I checked up on the practices of the JW's, and through this discussion I keep hearing posts on DA letters.
I was DA in an announcement at a meeting back in 1988 or 1989. It was basically the same as being DF, but I hadn't been baptized. A few months later the borg came out and said that it couldn't be done to someone who wasn't baptized. So they discussed the change, and then at the end of the meeting said, The matter with ..... has been delt with.
Suddenly, everyone was talking to me again, they even wanted to plan a baby shower.
    What is the policy now?

The policy for unbaptized publishers is below.

The entire chapter dealing with DA and DF can be found at this link: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/87606/1.ashx

Organized to Do Jehovah's Will (OD book) Chapter 14

    WHEN UNBAPTIZED PUBLISHERS ARE WRONGDOERS

What of unbaptized publishers who become involved in serious wrongdoing? Since they are not baptized members of the congregation, they cannot be formally disfellowshipped. However, they may not fully understand the Bible's standards, and kind counsel may help them to make straight paths for their feet.

If an unbaptized wrongdoer is unrepentant after two elders have met with him and have tried to help him, then it is necessary to inform the congregation. A brief announcement is made, stating: "[Name of person] is no longer recognized as an unbaptized publisher." The congregation will then view the wrongdoer as a person of the world. Although the offender is not disfellowshipped, Christians exercise caution with regard to any association with him. (1 Cor. 15:33) No field service reports would be accepted from him.

In time, an unbaptized person (adult or minor) who was removed as a publisher may wish to renew his association with the congregation and become a publisher again. In that situation, two elders would meet with him and ascertain his spiritual progress. If he has a good attitude, a Bible study may be held with him. If he progresses spiritually and eventually qualifies, a brief announcement can be made, stating: "[Name of person] is again recognized as an unbap-tized publisher."

Can a baptised one get DA'd instead of DF'd? Like if you're missing all the meetings but not actually commiting any other gross sin? Can they DA you in an atempt to shock you to come back.

If they did DA you, would that mean the annoying phone calls from ones wanting to encourage you would stop, because you are a semi-bad associate?

You can either DA yourself or get DF'ed.

In the end you are treated the same, you just have the satisfaction of telling them to pi** off, instead of them telling you too.

Can a baptised one get DA'd instead of DF'd?

There has been quite a bit of discussion on this board about this subject, particulary in light of the WTS' comments about people DAing themselves via not living up to Christian standards. The way the new Organized to do Jehovah's Will book reads, you won't be considered as DA'd simply for being "weak" (i.e. not attending meetings or participating in FS). Seems that DAing ones' self is still mostly a pro-active (you have to initiate it) measure.
