Any news articles on refusing organ transplant pre-1980?

I was wondering if anyone had any articles that could be deemed non-Apostate to the potential reader of someone who refused an organ transplant prior to 1980 that died.

I found some references to people on AJWRB.ORG, but I feel that won't carry enough weight. A news article would really help further my case and would lessen the "apostate" suspicion on me ...

Thanks in advance for any help on this front ...

I think Gary Buss' first wife died refusing a transplant.

coffee_black mentioned that her father, an elder, died refusing a transplant.

My dad died in 1978 due to kidney failure...refused a transplant because of Watchtower teachings. (he had been on dialysis for several years) I can't even describe the feeling I had when I read the "questions from the readers" that changed the policy. Yet I stayed for another decade before seriously questioning. It was one of many factors in my leaving. A lawsuit never crossed my mind at the time... after I was out I casually discussed it with an Lawyer but by then it was too late anyway.

I got this off Lexis Nexis, which all should agree is a neutral news source:

    Copyright 1978
    NEW YORK TIMES
    November 26, 1978, Sunday

    SECTION: Page 47, Column 4
    LENGTH: 74 words
    JOURNAL-CODE: NYT ABSTRACT:

Thirteen-year-old Lori Mason of Natick (Mass) dies on same day special court session was scheduled to ensure that her rights were being fully presented after Boston judge upheld her decision to decline bone marrow transplant from her sister. Had refused transplant on religious grounds as member of Jehovah's Witnesses and feared possibilty of endangering her sister's health. Had suffered from disease called Fanconi's aplastic anemia (S).

If you have access to a good library with the New York Times on microfilm, you might be able to print out the actual article.

Is there any reliable source that gives a good approximate number of those that died through this policy? Or even the blood policy which surely caused thousands of needless deaths.
