TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to the statute of limitation for cases of sexual offenses committed against children twelve years old or younger.
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Increases the time to prosecute for a sexual offense committed against a child twelve years old or younger from five to thirty years.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: To amend paragraph (f) of subdivision 3 of section 30.10 of the criminal procedure law to increase time to prosecute for a sexual offense committed against a child twelve years old or younger from five to thirty years.
JUSTIFICATION: Changing the statute of limitations from five years to thirty years in child abuse cases would allow more time for a victim of these horrible acts to come forward. More time would also allow for authorities to apprehend these criminals.

EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect on the first day of November next.
