Actually, I think it was more than a hoax - it was a criminally fraudulent attempt by a LOSER to extort money from Wendy's.
Crazy girl...she has that look...the kind of woman who'd bite your finger off!
I'm glad they found her out. Of course, her litigious history was very suspicious right from the get go.
I once worked in the same office as a guy who's main goal in life was to win a really big lawsuit so he could stop pretending to work once and for all. I don't think he was a con artist like this woman, but I know he was always on the look out for an opportunity to sue. In the year I knew him he filed two traffic related suits. Because both times it was determined that he was partially at fault, I think the settlements were only a couple thousand dollars in total. It's too bad he spent so much time looking for the big score instead of putting some of that energy into a real job.
Some of my Dad's words of wisdom,
"believe nothing you read, and only half of what you see"
I've always thought they were words to live by.

ps. to Jez: You are doing well! it's hard, losing your best frnd, as I did mine (she is like a sister to me) to the JW. I understand, and keep up the good work, gurl!
I still wonder where the finger came from?????????
Something like that really did happen to my Mom. Years ago a store named A and P.
Mom bought a box of doughnuts and was eating one and kept chewing and chewing and finally spit something out. It was the skin fron the finger!..I guess the rest got mixed in..
Know what she got out of it ?
An apology and a baked cake!..Think she ate the cake?..
Snoozy..
The finger was lost by a guy who admits giving the severed digit to the gal's husband.
The consequences of this attepted extortion are outrageous! Hundreds of former Wendy's workers are now unemployed as a direct result of business lost because of this false accusation. These are not corporate tycoons we're talking about, these are people in entry-level type jobs, fryin' burgers and taking orders.
The pity of it all is that Wendy's makes a good product and has an innovative menu. If there was justice in this world, this would not have happened to them.
I bet the man who donated the finger managed a "private" settlement with his employer.
