Silent Lambs campaign...should we distribute at the KH??

After seeing Blondie's post about the new silent lambs campaign to distribute info on molestation, I got to thinking about something: what better place to hand these out than the KH?

More specifically....put them on the windows of the cars in the parking lot while they are at the sunday meeting. Maybe most would just throw them away...but if just one person sees it, and starts to question the policy, or ends up reporting abuse to the police because of it, it would be worth it.

I am not a very brave person...but if a few others would be willing to do this, maybe we could organize a people in cities across the nation to put them on the windshields. I don't know if we could get in trouble for trespassing or not..but hey, witnesses will knock on doors even if it says no solicitation...sooooo it may be worth a shot.

Anyone interested? comments? Am I out of my mind? I am not looking to really cause trouble for people at the KH...I just want to do a little something to hopefully raise awareness.

parking attendants at the kh's check the cars during the meetings and would probably remove them before anyone saw them. you'd have more luck sticking them on windshields at the local dairy queen/ wendys/walmart after the meetings. you'd hit more witnesses that way.

The silent lambs site also has suggestions on putting small ads in the newspaper. I think the suggested wording that mentions JWs and abuse in the titles would be eyecatching.

You would need to check your local laws to determine if you are allowed to put flyers on people's cars. It's not worth getting into legal trouble over. I don't know how zealous the parking attendants are in your locale; here, they do check the cars frequently and they would just remove the flyers as the other poster said. Hardly worth it if the flyers will be discarded before anyone reads them and you get arrested!

I really think the newspaper ad is a great idea. It would reach both JWs and those who know JWs who have been abused. There is a poster on the silent lambs site (a 1-pg poster is on the same web page as the suggested newspaper ad wording list--that one seems more appealing to the general public than the other 2-pager that's designed for JWs). You could post that up in public places such as grocery stores, laundromats, etc.--wherever they have bulletin boards for community use.

You could also use internet forums to post notices about the May 30 campaign, even forums that aren't for xjw topics. Just post it as a news article.

Notify your local media about the campaign. Write letters to the editor.

    Just some suggestions...

Hitting the pavement is my plan. Both kh's in my area are on heavily traveled roads.

    Door to door work too.

Using my own printer, I will have an ample supply of fliers to hand out and 'place'.

It is so easy to get this message out. And very rewarding too.

Overt picketing usually turns a JW off more due to the programming. Subtle as in a newspaper, tv, might get a Witness to look at something. Otherwise, in a big group, Big Brother will watch and no one will take anything.

You guys go door to door. I've had enough of that in my time. I'll give you plenty of moral support while I beerbong a few brews.

hmmm..you guys are probably right about the flyers getting thrown away before they see them. Maybe I should just go to laundry mats and slide them inside the magazines.

Door to door? naw....I am NOT up for that. I will look into the newspaper ads. I don't think I could actually do picketing, not in front of a KH. I think that would be too confrontational, at least for me.

    Thanks for the comments.
