    I was on the Massachusetts DSS website looking at adoption information for a friend and I started clicking other places and found their definition of mandated reporters of child abuse.

    • Physicians, medical interns, hospital personnel engaged in the examination, care or treatment of persons, medical examiners;
    • Psychologists, emergency medical technicians, dentists, nurses, chiropractors, podiatrists, optometrists, osteopaths;
    • Public or private schoolteachers, educational administrators, guidance or family counselors;
    • Office of Child Care Services licensors;
    • Day care and child care workers, including any person paid to care for, or work with, a child in any public or private facility, or home or program funded or licensed by the Commonwealth, which provides day care or residential services. This includes child care resource and referral agencies, as well as voucher management agencies, family day care and child care food programs;
    • Social workers, foster parents, probation officers, clerks magistrate of the district courts, and parole officers;
    • Firefighters or police officers;
    • School attendance officers, allied mental health and licensed human services professionals;
    • Psychiatrists, and clinical social workers, drug and alcoholism counselors; and
    • Priests, rabbis, clergy members, ordained or licensed ministers, leaders of any church or religious body, accredited Christian Science practitioners, or a person employed by a church or religious body to supervise, educate, teach, train or counsel a child on a regular basis.

    So according to this.......since all members of Jehovahs Witnesses are supposed to train children - I mean isn't that why they go to bible study, theocratic ministry school etc.....shouldn't every witness be mandated to report child abuse?

    I know this is probably been talked about to death but it was interesting to me.

    All baptized JWs are described as Ordained Ministers.

    I personally know of a few cases where whole congregations knew that Mr. _______ was molesting his children and their friends and no one did a darn thing about it.

    I'd like to see the whole congregation be prosecuted - it makes me sick that they hide these sicko's and most of the time do nothing but counsel their supposedly "repentant" butts in private.

    Just because they say something doesn't make it so. Sure they claim and they tell their newly dedicated ones (baptized) that they are ordained ministers BUT just try to marry someone or use the position of ordained minister in some way. A second note is that no one is employed by the Kingdom Hall to supervise, train, ect.

    The term 'ordained minister' is a TITLE. It was added to calm rising anger amonst witnesses. Witnesses claim to have no clergy/laity class distinction. However recent events and statements from witness leaders (elders) bring a new thought to the idea of clergy/laity distinction. When the congregations are strongly counseled that "You need to listen to the elders, to the governing body, to the Faithful Slave, the Jehovah's Earthly Organization, to MOTHER!" But these ones don't listen when we have something to say. Yes there is a distinction.

    Has anyone (not elder) tried to get licensed in the state to marry individuals? You would need a letter from the BOE indicating that you are an ordained minister with your particular congregation.

    Getting back to the topic of this post thread.

    It shouldn't matter what the laws of the land say. To report or not to report. A loving Christian would do all they can to ensure the safety of a child.
