I was watching a program the other day on the History Channel about the Ark of the Covenant and it dawned on me the while Jehovah banned idol worshop he was actually promoting it. The Iserealites in a sense worshiped the Ark of the Covenant. You weren't allow to touch it, it had magical powers and would kill you. They gave special reverence to the Ark and used it in worship of God. It was kept in the most holy of holies in the temple and only the high preist was allowed to see it. They would carry it into battle as a symbol of God's power. To me all of this points to idol worship. Even though God outlawed idol worship and destroyed whole nations for this reason. Sounds a little contradictory to me.
Did Jehovah promote idol worship?...

Youré right.
Remember the snake they had to create, stick on a pole and worship as well? Sounds like an idol to me.

I agree. I've even wondered why there was so much pomp and circumstance to the Israelite religion. Certain clothes with specific jewels at specific locations. Tabernacle with specific size rooms and tent material and so on. Very ritualistic. Very unlike what Christ talked about.
