Praying at the Door

An interesting side topic arose on another thread about praying with people at the door.

I did door to door witnesses for decades and never once prayed with someone at the door, and yes, requests were made.

By not praying with worldly ones I was following the instructions from the FDS. However, I never really understood the WTS stance on this.

I would like to hear others thoughts about why praying at the door with someone would be scripturally appropriate or not.

I realize that it may be a loving and compassionate thing to do. After all if someone requests a complete stranger to pray with them they may really be in some distress. However, what is the bible's view? Or "What Does the Bible Really Say?"

Funny, I saw the same thread (especially Blondies post with WTS quotes) and then I went off to get some housework done! I knew that I would get into a discussion there and I need to get busy before it gets back up to the 90 degree range,

I thought of many angles that this subject could take (being the old blabber-mouth that I tend to be) and I agree with your thoughts. Like what HARM could it do? I never completely understood the WTS stance on this either. DID Jesus stop to decide who was worthy of prayer when he preached? When he travelled? Ever?

I'll be busy for a while, but this will be on my mind---and I'll be back later.......

There are a lot of new posters here. This is a question I asked a couple years ago but only got one response.

Any thoughts on witnesses praying at the door?

If they were followers of Christ rather than men they would pray with anybody. Heck, my jw won't even say dinner prayers with anybody. How sad a simple giving of thanks is prohibited by men.
