This is why reporting is so important. These guys just don't stop. See, the Silentlambs say they may have evidence on 27,000 pedophiles at bethel. When you think of ONE possible JW like this, how many victims could that be? If these guys are just reproved, or even dfd and reinstated 6 mo. later, and no is one the wiser why because they don't get ARRESTED, well, they keep raping kids. MOST molesters molest at least 50 kids in a lifetime.
Serial molester may have victims in the thousands.

Another thing. This sounds sooo farfetched. But very few report, it's sad, often folks just can''t handle it. Can't go through with even talking about it, but when you look at the treatment plans of these pedophiles, all the names they write down, etc. it adds up. It's really scary. That's why I don't think it's worth the risk to let these very, very ill people out. Do we let someone out who is homicidally insane? With a ninety percent chance of murdering someone when they get out? Then why do we let out these very sick individuals, and set them up for failure?

Good points, Avi.
With regard to convicted child molestors and those convicted of really violent crimes against people, when they've completed their prison sentences, I think they should have the burden of proving, to a panel of independent psychologist types, that they no longer represent a threat to society. In the case of child molestors, that would be a pretty tough burden, and rightfully so, given the evidence of recidivism.
We could clear up some space in our prisons for these folks by ending the wasteful and entirely unsuccessful drug war. -

Well, considering that in 30 years of activity, this guy would have had to have molested three children a day every day to come up with 36,000 victims (including his years of incarceration), I guess it does sound far-fetched. I saw some of this guy's notebooks on TV, and one thing is that he grouped the victims in different categories, so it is possible that there is duplication. Maybe many are not actual victims but children he met that he thought of as potential victims; apparently, what he wrote about the children was in code, so it isn't known if all these are molestation victims. Still....it's a very strange and disturbing case...

In 1984, the Idaho Supreme Court upheld a 1978 conviction for molesting two 14-year-old boys and characterized Schwartzmiller as a "repeat offender"
Then what was the S.O.B. doing out on the streets at all.
Those poor, poor children.

Wily, charismatic and "smarter than heck," is how James Kevan, one of his defense lawyers in the mid-1970s, described Schwartzmiller on Friday. "He could write up legal documents better than most lawyers."
Schwartzmiller, 63, has been arrested at least nine times and spent 12 years in prison. But police think that in his years on the outside, he may have become one of the nation's most prolific child molesters in history.
