After my wife returned from the District Convention in San Diego last weekend, she had this picture on her camera.

I find it interesting that they would rent this big stadium and then block off half of it. Maybe this is what they always do, but it seemed a little funny to me. Anyone else gone to Qualcomm and seen it like this?

I went to this assembly a few times, and the fact is that there just are not nearly enough witnesses to fill it. Not even close. So they will pack them closer together, which gives the appearance of being more filled where they sit, and leaves a lot less cleanup everywhere else.

It's just another form of control, you can't even sit where you want to at meetings or assemblies. The "elders" make "suggestions" on where you should sit.If you sit closer, youre more spiritual. If you sit in the back, your not as spiritual.

It seems to me that it would be a bit demoralizing to see all those empty seats.

Ah yes. All those umbrellas. LOL I forgot about all those umbrellas! I went to district conventions at Dodger and Anahiem stadiums. It was a weird feeling when I went to Dodger to actually watch a baseball game. I looked behind the concession stands and thought back when we would be in there making pastrami sandwiches.

They did the same thing at Veteran's Stadium (when it existed) in Philadelphia. That stadium, which seated about 65,000, would usually be more than half-empty during two conventions each summer. Interestingly, despite the half-full status, parking was always a problem. Either the city or the jws ran a very poor parking show.

Yeah, I don't get it either. We used to go to the Tacoma Dome. When I was younger, the first few assemblies there were really full. Now they rope off or block all the upper seating, and instead of renting the Dome twice, they get it four or five times. The attendance is about 1/2 to 2/3 of what I remember it being. This can't be more efficient, or less costly, why do they do it???

It's actually quite eerie. I think about them using the scripture, during the time of the end the love of the greater number cooling off...then I think about how sad the Org is with all the inconsistencies and internal problems that it seems that the Org has shot itself in the foot, so to speak. Reason as to why its numbers are failing. Double edged sword.
