Has anyone else tried this program?

I found this by chance and It's totally addicting. You can virtually travel the world, zooming in on any area in the entire world. Some cities are more detailed than others, but it's amazing.

    The world just got smaller.....

Sadly here at home I'm on dialup, but at university (I'm an old fart student at the moment) with the super-fast cable connection I've spent many an hour over the last week or two on google earth, and it is UTTERLY FANTASTIC. Recommended to anyone. You can fly up and down the Grand Canyon - cool

Bring on Google Mars or Google Solar System

    ig.

    Yes, it's great - I love the zoom-in thing.

Microsoft had a similar thing out several years ago but I think the maps were less complete.

I can't believe the detail on some cities, particularly in Japan.
There is also a 3D building effect that works in most major cities where the buildings are drawn in 3D so you can zoom in and tilt so you can virtually "fly" down the street and get a good idea of just how tall some buildings are.

But, what amazes me is being able to visit other places in the world that I probably will never have a chance to visit. I just did a virtual tour of the Alutian (SP) Islands. The beauty of those islands is amazing.

Yes it's one of the great marvels of information technology that you can see so much detail and learn so much about so many places in the world without ever going there.
