For those at the Apostafest in Manchester, NH this weekend, or those that would have liked to have been there, would you be seriously interested in getting together later this year? Late summer or early fall? After bug season but before it turns too cold??
I have a co-worker who owns a bed and breakfast in a great little Vermont town about 12 miles from where Lori and I live. She told me that she would rent out her rooms for $75 to $85 per night (depending on double or queen sized beds) for me. She has about 7 rooms, and the price includes breakfast (she's a terrific cook). Lori and I have a great place for a good-sized barbeque, and we'd love to have it here, and the cost would be really minimal - the price of a 12-pack or a couple of pounds of ribs or hamburger.
Anyone interested? I'm sure that I could get a few ex-JWs from the local VT/NH area to attend, in addition to whomever might come from around the Northeast. Also, the Berrys of Silentlambs and the Dateline program fame live about 20 miles from here, and maybe they would be interested in coming. Let's see.
A few folks have already e-mailed me that they are interested. If there are enough people, I would make some concrete plans. Late September to mid-October is just fucking awesome up here, and you should see our gardens lit up with flaming torches and the moon coming up over the New Hampshire mountains and a train going by across the valley, with whitetail deer feeding in the yard. I'm not shitting you...this place is amazing.
Even if only the number of people who attended the NE Fest this weekend were interested, it would work out really well. I could get you a great place to stay, and I'd even take a day off from work to make sure you got to see some of the best spots in southern Vermont from the viewpoint of a native. Stuff you'd never see otherwise...
Enough, already. Anyone interested enough to make a committment? Let me hear your responses, and I'll work out the details. It will be well worth the effort. Mike and Lia - you could stay with us, at NO cost. You might have to do a few dishes, cook a few dishes, light a few torches...Lori is a fucking fanatic when it comes to creating atmosphere. You should see our indoor winter parties, with a hundred candles burning and the house lit up like a temple, the smell of great food and drink permeating it all, and this fantastic art (by Lori) everywhere. I love it, like I love her...
