Today I awoke from dreams of nocturnal flight,
Hoping they might take me through the day and
Lift me skyward, though now awake.
E'er a child at heart and full of hope, I left my perch
And begged Icarus that he should hear my plea to
Enter that realm where once he briefly sailed.
Head bowed, I spoke my heart, cast my eyes toward
The eternal sun and lifted off an earth that gave way
To a boy who dared dream what could not be . . .
