For those of you who live in the states, I would recommend going to Amarillo Texas and visit the Palo Duro Canyon, it was really cool looking. They have an outdoor drama there called "Texas Legacies", and it was one of the best shows I have seen in my life. Its outdoors in an ampitheater and sits down in the canyon. I thought Amarillo was just the perfect size city and the lanscapes around there were so reminiscent of the old west. The Big Texan SteakRanch had some delicious Barbecue and some good music too. I always love traveling out west, but Colorado is the furthest west I have been. I have recently taken a liking to western swing music, and especially "asleep at the wheel" I have bought 3 of their CD's this year and have nearly worn out one. If I were to ever move far away from home again, then Texas would be my first choice.

My sister used to live in Pampa and my kids and I spent a month there. We traveled into Amarillo a couple of times. We loved the big western wear store, I can't recall the name of it though. It was a treat to hear Boot Scootin' Boogie while we shopped. We liked the huge book/music store, Hastings I think it was called and of course the TexMex food.

Also I need to mention that I finally picketed my first convention in Amarillo, and there was a carload of JW teenagers who pulled up beside me and rolled down their windows, waved to me, and gave me the thumbs up sign, so if you guys are reading this I just want to say "thank you" as it made it all worthwhile to me. Plus I was followed around by 2 convention attendants who were wearing their suits, ties, name badges, and Big Cowboy hats. It was hilarious as they finally had something interested to do--following the "evil" apostate around-LOL

    and Big Cowboy hats.

I lived in Andrews, Texas, West Texas during the early 80s. This was after the movie Urban Cowboy caused a western wear fad that was still ongoing. Well, we had a new circuit overseer come to visit. On Thursday night he began to lecture the brothers for wearing faddish western suites, ties and dress cowboy boots and hats to the hall. On Sunday he had to apologize because the elders there straightened him out. "We always have, always will dress this way. It's not a fad. This is West Texas." I guess those elders were right.

Cool, Im glad the local Elders had some balls to stand up to him. I wore my cowboy hat when I picketed, and wore it almost during the whole trip to Texas.

When in Texas, do as the Texans do, right?

I never had a hat, but I wore boots, shirts, western jeans and belts. I loved it. I drew the line at prairie skirts though. I was too petite for them. They overwhelmed me. But my jw husband, now exhusband always tried to get me to wear them. I did have a cute westernish dress though.

I have a kid who is officially a Texan and she's right proud of that.
