Any computer nerds out there that can help me find 1.A Free linux site, 2 install it onto a hard drive after I format it?

I already downloaded the ISO, what should I do next?

Burn the ISO files to CD's. Put the first one in, boot up, and hopefully it'll boot off the CD and walk you through an install.
What distro did you get? Sounds like you already found "A Free linux site".

So you are into the "alternative"(OS) lifestyle? When I was experimenting with Linux, the two sites I found most helpful were www.linuxquestions.org, and www.distrowatch.com. I tried SuSE, Caldera, Libranet and Mepis and Ubuntu, had the best success with Mepis. However, I like BeOS and the new version, Zeta, much better. Actually, I would sum them up by paraphrasing Sidra, as played by Teri Hatcher, on Seinfeld "They are spectacular."

sounds like you already found a free distro site. apart from what thom said, you'll just want to make sure that when you burn the ISO, that you burn it as a "bootable disc" or whatever your burning software calls the process.

the install process can reformat the HDD for you with a linux file system.

do you have windows on another HDD on the same computer? are you going to try dual booting?

i'va tried lots o' different distros, and i've been playing with crypto and openBSD lately, but my absolute fave is fedora core. and there is more support online for linux, and fedora core especially, than the lesser known distros or OSs i get my distros from http://www.linuxiso.org/

apart from that, there is much free software in the fedora core distro, and the internet has a lot of free, opensource software for linux.

TS (of the windows=watchtower class) ;)
