Genesis 3:16 Is that all there is?

I'm curious as to the exact interpretation of Genisis 3:16. After going to a marriage conference in our area, several years ago, there was a lot of things being harped on. This scripture was one in particular.

16 To the woman He said, I will greatly multiply your grief and your suffering in pregnancy and the pangs of childbearing; with spasms of distress you will bring forth children. Yet your desire and craving will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.

It was explained to me, this way. A woman, when not under the guide of a Godly directed husband, would begin to desire, or try to usurp her husbands authority, to the point of actually wrestling away for control in the relationship, and so comes the desire and craving for the husbands power, not so much the husband himself, but what his position in the marriage represents. Thus, the reason for so much contention and strife among couples, the age old struggle between good & evil, man & woman.

Because we as persons normally without accurate knowledge regarding scripture and not knowing our proper place within the marriage arrangement, we then fall victim to this age old biblical principle, as we wrestle within our relations with each other.

So the B portion of this scripture gives the indication of not what may seem apparent at first. The husband ruling over his wife in not a way of befitting any good leadership, but in a domineering, dictatorial fashion. A Czarist type rulership with little or no love being displayed.

I was taken aback by this concept, as I'd never heard of such a thing, but it really begin to to hit a few nerves after listening to the way they explained it.

What if anything has been taught in the Kingdom Hall regarding this scripture? Has anyone else been given this scripture as a reason for so many problems in relationships?

What a load of bullshit. Who told you that?

The passage is very simple... because Eve sinned she was changed so that she craved men. [Period]

All of that other crap about wrestling authority from a man... where they hell did that come from? Whoever told you that had just pulled that out of their ass... I bet you were told this be a Pentecostal... have you ever seen how pussy whipped those men at? They all look terrified of their wives.

Yea, I never heard it that way. Was always about the wife craving the husband, and in some instances to the point she would be bling to who he really was as a person, i.e. the women who can't beleive their husband was having an affair, etc.

Family Life is a Christian fellowship and ministry service that sponsors marriage retreats for couples entering into a relationship, as well as those who are already married. There functions have a unique appeal to the marrige mates. A stay of 3 nights in a hotel with conferences going on from about 10am to 6pm were reminiscent of going to a district convention, but was centered exclusively for couples.

Date Night, getting to meet others from all over the country, many in desperation of saving their marriges, others who come to them year end and year out as a testimony to thier need & desire, to keep and maintain thier love for each other. Live Christian music, and poignant talks, not just by brothers, but by sisters as well. Dr. James Dobson is the founder of this organisation, and though they're not JW inspired, their teachings were some of the beginings to healing a relationship that had turned bitter and poisonous.

I'd gone to two sponsored retreats, long after leaving the truth. They were attended by some very devoted individuals in search of keeping thier marriage alive.

Was this the very first thing you thought or did you spend alot of time thinking of the most abrasive way to express your opposition. I'm just curious is all.

Thanks for making me think of another approach to this scripture. The more ideas the better since we now have the 'freedom' to approach anaylizing scriptures without a dictatorship or one sided thinking.

It sounds like if her craving is for her husband, it would be like for him and what he... offers. Like chocolate cake?
