The wisdom of Elders?

Before leaving the Org. I was asking many questions and doing much research to make sure that my decision was justified and fully verified.

When I asked one particular elder about certain teachings in one of the study books, I was told "that's ten years old, that's "old-hat" now". I was bewildered at this comment, as this elder would be expected to explain and fully justify the Organisation's position on all that went on in 1914, and the subsequent years. After-all, the 1914 teachings were the foundation for the JWs.

Has anyone else heard of such contradictory statements such as this.

Another prime example was the so-called prophecies of the King of the North/South. It now appears that all those hours spent at the book-study and the preparation before arriving there, was not only a waste of time and effort but must also be considered "Old Hat" !

It's inexplicable that an infallible god led people down the wrong path only a few yrs ago, but now he's got his story straight. It's also inexplicable that some of the old testament is not considered outdated, while parts of the new literature is.

Why did they drop the the King of the north/south now?

When I said to my wife I could show her some WT quotes where they are way out of line she said:"ok,but I don't want to see anything more than 10 years old".

When she told some elders she could trust about my list of 30 questions she was told:"well,if he doesn't have the truth in his heart,it doesn't matter what we tell him".What an easy way to get out of answering questions that have no scriptural answers!

If you ever get a chance to look at C. T. Russell's writings, you'll soon realize that, were he alive today, he'd be considered an apostate. The explanation I get for all the stuff that's just plain wrong is that those older assertions were the "understanding" at the time and the "understanding" is different today. Too bad that people are losing their lives (literally and otherwise) over such arbitrary and changeable "understanding."
