I understand that TV and possibly telephone have spiritualistic connections, according to a programme SCIENCE AND SEANCES on BBC 2 yesterday.
In view of the connections with spiritualism, should a jw own either of these items?
Doesn't it say not to have anything to do with mediums in the bible?

We had a very influential brother in my old cong who said it was wrong to video a programme that was on while you were at a meeting, because it didnt represent a true sacrifice of your time to Jehovah. So that was the line the whole congregation took.
Fortunately I had no idea how to use my video, so I was pretty righteous on that one by default.
The society wants you to have a tv and a vcr so that they can get you to watch all of the theocratic videos that the society lovingly provides. And telephones make it easy to chastise you for not being at the meetings, turning in your field service report or picking up your magazines from the literature counter

Personally, I believe TV should be condemned in the same way as the Internet is. Both are 'Wordly' devices.
I believe that it was saying that the idea of communicating with the dead inspired the idea of Telephones and TV.
Indeed some of the people involved in the invenion of these items were involved in spiritism.
