A Hamster named "Cujo"

OK, so when I get a little down, I have a tendency to purchase animals. The difficulties with my family and my leaving the Org have been weighing on me. Yesterday, I purchased two blonde dwarf hamsters, both female.

The one is a sweetheart. She's a little uncomfortable, as expected, but she's coming around. She knaws on me a little, but doesn't bite. She almost crawled completely into my hand just now.

The other wants blood. I thought she was nippy at the store because we woke her up, but she's done nothing but wail on me ever since. Even if I'm holding a food nugget between her and me, she'll use the nugget to climb onto my finger and try to take a piece out of me. I've learned that the skin on my dominant hand is a lot tougher than that on my other hand.

Ideas on taming the murderous rodent I've affectionately dubbed "Cujo"?

Just like people, some rodents are just plain mean. All I can say, is good luck, and look for bite marks on your little angel.

I had a hamster that would attack you! I thought there must have been something wrong with him.

I owned a dwarf hamster only once. It was very unpredictable and much, much touchier than regular hamsters. Sometimes it would be fine and other times it would bite me. Psycho little buggers. I wish you luck.

I read last night that dwarf hamsters have a tendency to revert after they've been tamed if they don't get a lot of interaction - something to do with the short amount of time during which they've been domesticated. So far, the girls haven't tried to kill each other and seem to occassionally groom each other. I've got a couple of ideas to try out on Cujo before I chuck her off the balcony. (No, I wouldn't actually do that - it wouldn't work anyway because she'd have a deathgrip on my finger.)

If I succeed in taming the shrew, you guys will be the first to hear the momentous news!
