being a long time, jethro tull fan....

a certain song has brought deep and painfull feelings to the fore.

though i have stopped listening to the song, at the request of a dear friend who saw how meaningfull the words were, in my fragile state the words are now available for you....

    Wind-Up

When I was young and they packed me off to school
and taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
with their God tucked underneath my arm --
their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers --
    I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school
and have all the bishops harmonize these lines --
how do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son
when that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song
'cos that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
    I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
    __

hope y'all enjoy the words of a great song writer, and muscian...

The greatest consistancy of the WTBTS is their INconsistancy.

Sheesh, that really hurts. But I can't hear the music, come to think about it, I can't recall any Jethro Tull.

thank you zev for the amazing memories.

I've had this on my desktop for weeks now, and would like share it

The Chamber of 32 Doors (Peter Gabriel, The lamb lies down on Broadway)

At the top of the stairs
    there's hundreds of people
running around to all of the doors
they try to find themselves an audience
    their deductions need applause

the rich man stands in front of you
the poor man behind my back
they believe they control the game
but the juggler holds another pack

I need someone to believe in, someone to trust
I need someone to believe in, someone to trust

I'd rather trust a country man, than a town man
You can judge by his eyes, take a look if you can
    He'll smile through his guard
    survival trains hard

I'd rather trust a man who works with his hands
You look at him once; you know he understands

    Don't need any shield
when you're out in the field

    But down here
I'm so alone with my fear
    with everything that I hear
and every single door that I've walked through
I've got to find my own way

    The priest and the magician
singing all of the charms that they have ever heard
they're all calling out my name
    even academics searching printed word

My father to the left of me
    My mother to the right
    like everyone else they're pointing
    nowhere seems quite right

I need someone to believe in
    someone to trust

I'd rather trust a man who doesn't shout what he's found
there's no need to sell it if you're homeward bound
    If I choose a side
he won't take me for a ride

    Back inside
the chamber of so many doors
    I've nowhere to hide
I give you all of my dreams
If you'd help me find a door
that doesn't lead me back again
    take me away

It's only water from a stranger's tear (Peter Gabriel)

    Zev;

Being a Tull fan you must know of this one?

Just Trying To Be, by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tunn

There was a time when you were so young and walked in their way.
They made you feel they loved you all-seeing they say.
You're going wrong if their game you don't play
And that the song I sing will leave you astray.

    Unfeeling, feel lonely rejection,
    unknowing, know you're going wrong.
And they can't see that we're just trying to be,
    and not what we seem,
and even now believe that it's not real and only a dream.

We're in the same area and I've been to all the shows around here next time I'll wave.
