Never, almost never.
I remember when the congregation wanted to have a garage sale and donate the proceeds to the local KH building fund. They were told that if they wanted to have a personal garage sale and donate the money that was their decision but they could not put the WT or KH name to the event. So that is what they did.
I can see George Benson or Prince having a concert and personally donating all or part of the proceeds and perhaps publicizing it under their own name but never the WTS.
I understand that Serena is donating money to the Red Cross.
*Serena Williams will auction off those $30,000 “Crown of Hearts” earrings she wore during her victorious U.S. Open match against Francesca Shiavone to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Designed by Louisiana native Erica Courtney, the chandelier style earrings are made up of over 355 diamonds, approximately 4.18 carats in total, and set in platinum. “I send my prayers and my love to the hurricane victims, and their families. I am so saddened by the destruction and despair,” says Williams. “I encourage everyone to assist in this great time of need. Thank you, Erica, for teaming with me for such a worthwhile cause.” The auction may be accessed at www.tenniskatrina.com.
