We all want to have success, enjoy happiness, love and good health. So why must 99% of people be destroyed at Armageddon? Why must there be victims (Armageddon) in order to have a paradise?
Deep down inside, I think that we are all the same, although we come from different backgrounds, and have different personalities and tastes, so why should anyone die?

After all, I read a post last week that said the biblical timetable for the Revelation events are off about a thousand years or something.
What a relief!

no, we are each a different and special snowflake...
we are all the same and that goes beyond humanity and into the animal kingdom and even the plant kingdom. we want to live, we want to thrive, we want to enjoy life to whatever capacity our mental capabilities allow us.
death is inevitable, therefore, every day should be lived to the fullest.
1. do something that makes you happy
2. do something for somebody else that makes them happy
rinse, repeat.
At the deepest level we are all the same - not same as in alike but same because all is oneness. You can discover this yourself directly. The differences which are perceived are differences imposed by the mind and the separate sense of self that the mind also creates. Most people go about their lives swimming in this illusory mind created world without the slightest inkling that the 'little me' that they take themselves to be doesn't exist in reality. Without 'me' to separate everything all is seen to be one.
you're right JH, and science backs it.
our genomes (the code that makes us what we are individually) are very similar. and we are able to test our DNA code to determine where we all come from. and the code strongly suggests that we all come out of africa about 200 000 years ago.
different religions and death at armagedon? i don't see how a loving god could do such a thing, considering that he would have been responsible for creating our genomes. he would know that there is nothing more mysterious and deeper than our genetic code, therefore obsoleting the need for destruction and death at armagedon.
our code also strongly suggests that we share common ancestors with other living things. octopuses, bacteria, sea-weed, ants, ant eaters, elephants, rock hyraxes, trees, grass and humans all share common ancestors long long ago.
at this point you have to ask: why would god only be concerned with sparing us from destruction, when all life on the planet comes from the same code? why the distinction? it would seem that we are all equal, biologically. afterall, there are some micro-organisms with larger genomes than us!

Because organized religion serves as the collective repository for the hatred of the "tribe" towards their "enemies", real or imagined.
Regardless of the tribe we join (muslim, jew, christian, JW) our theology gives us the power to feel good about ourselves by giving us licence to hate all those disagreeing with our belief system. Classic e.g., JWs are given a licence to "hate" the wicked members of "satans" world and can justify this as gods will.
Can you imagine a fundamentalist x-tian 'sharing' his paradise with a muslim, or vice versa? As Neitszche said: "Human....all too human...."
