My wife and I went out for breakfast this morning, as we usually like to do.

However, today we were in the mood for ham with our breakfast, so we hit our "ham" breakfast restaurant. We have different restaurants we frequent depending on what we feel in the mood for eating.

This little restaurant is in a small town next to ours, on a side street, and if you didn't live in this town, you probably would never find it. (I used to live here, growing up here till I was 21).

This is the ONLY restaurant I know of in this part of the state where you get ham sliced right off the bone!!!! Not package, processed, or any other way. And, they give you plenty, and at a reasonable price. My wife always has to take half of it home, becaue she can't eat it all.

We have other places to go for other "special" meals too, some for lunch, some for dinner, although we don't go out often in the evenings, because the meals generally cost more than breakfast meals.

Does anyone else have a special place to go for an exceptional and reasonable fared meal and preferably homestyle cooking?

There is a little country pub near to us that does proper food (ie. not microwaved / reheated rubbish). They have a lovely beer garden and the kids like going to have a play on the grass and because they like the food (given the choice they often pick to go there instead of McD's etc...)

Although it is packed out on Sundays it is usually very quiet on Sat so we go then and while away an hour or so (why does everyone have an obsession with eating out on Sunday when everywhere is packed and the meal / service not usually as good?!?)

    Moody's Diner, Waldoboro, Maine.

This place should be declared a national treasure. I don't think I've ever spent more than 20 bucks for two people, and most of the time it's far less. The food (Maine style cuisine) is all from scratch, always good. They've got stuff like pot roast, meatloaf, turkey dinner (real turkey, cut kinda sloppy off the bone.) THE BEST pies, chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, homemade whoopies as big as your dang head. The waitresses call you deah (the Northern equivalent of hon.) Moody's has been open since the 1930's, I think. If you're ever in Maine, that's the place to go, though maybe not during tourist season, as it gets packed with loud people.

edited to add- Oh yeah, and they'll even make you up a plate of veggies and a biscuit if you don't eat meat!

When I used to go out in 'Service' I always looked for the restaurant with the slowest, worst service. Usually gobbled up at least an hour and a half. Who cared if the food was good or bad, as long as they were slow!

I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I'l make a note of that and check it out, if I ever head up there.

That makes sense to me. LOL !!! Did you count your time in the restaurant?

My son's football coach has a restaurant, it's a sports bar actually. Everything is handmade, and cooked to order, and the plates are large, and over filled....we went for all-you-can-eat rack of ribs, on the weekend, and it's served on a platter, a whole rack of slow-smoked ribs, over top a heap of handcut french fries.....for $13.99....needless to say, my husband and I came home each, with half our order, we could NOT eat, ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT RIBS....it's way too much...we have to take the boys there after their next game. He has a wide variety of dishes, but he's known far and wide for his ribs and wings.....

I love the mom and pop places, where the extended family waits tables and cooks, etc. There's a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican place like this in my neighborhood that everyone calls Lorena's, because she's the owner. I don't even know the real name of the restaurant. We like to call it Slowrena's because it takes so long to get your food, but it's worth it. Fresh guacamole, homemade salsa (best in Dallas imo), roasted potatoes and refried beans with your breakfast and nobody speaks English, except the customers and Lorena (a little bit).

She always pulls me aside to give me dubious advice on parenting. The last time I was there, she asked me if I had a boyfriend and told me that if I did, I should be careful not to leave my daughter alone with him now that she's wearing makeup. I told her I'd keep that in mind if there's ever a man around. LOL

Well I like anything buffet, so with that in mind I eat alot at the Golden Corral, Ryans Steakhouse, Great American Buffet. I also love Chinese. There is a mexican restaurant near us called El Chico's and they have an all you can eat special and the food is excellent. My favorite pizza place is Marion's Pizza in Dayton Ohio-this is where I had the Dayton Apostafest back in June. The pizza there is the best. Lately I have been having cravings for Arby's Roast Beef, and I love their Big Montana sandwich
