prologos, The WT has only descended into the world of televangelism as has been done for decades by other religions. Don't be too disheartened about this. There are always a few gems who will head off to the library and thumb through books of substance -

prologos. Are you saying that the art of reasoning and effective research has now left this religion? Was it ever there, really? -

Watchtower's response to Royal Commission shows they have learned nothing and will do nothing
by wannaexit ini've quickly read through watchtower's submission to the royal commission.
seems like they aren't planning to change policy anytime soon.
they are critical of how the royal commission handled the situation.. the tone is of the submission is shear arrogance.

Oh how I love the saying...."Pride before the fall". No one can keep up such an arrogant pretence and feel they will escape justice. I feel it in my bones -

Good points all of them. I recognize that I need to stay on track with this particular issue of Child Abuse and how the ARC wishes to find a way to deal with it in relation to the unusual two witness rule that JWs live by. I think legislation is what every one is recommending. No internal judicial committees, just straight reporting to the relevant authorities.
Strict back ground checks on all who are dealing with children and perhaps penalties for those who do not comply. It is a crime not some religiously defined sin.
Thanks to all

All comments here are valid. I understand that this whole issue of child abuse must be the focus. To take a general list of "complaints" that are not relevant to this RC could sound petty or smack of religious bias. The RC are interested in the means by which such abuses have been allowed to happen in the past and prevent future abuses. This means they are taking a close look.........A very close look at this religion and it's relationship to normal society.
The Clergy/Penitent issue is well worth investigating as one commentator mentioned, for I have not seen it as a part of the standard within the "known" practise of this religion. There is room for change in this area. I feel that taking children out on the preaching work is another thing that is wrong. Children need free time and happy times to enjoy on the weekends. Mandatory reporting is bound to occur here. I think every comment if valuable and am aware of the need to stay on track with this.
The tax exempt status they have enjoyed is a misplaced one. They do nothing charitable toward their fellow man. I believe they attached themselves to a case in America when a religious leader was battling to keep in money from sales of book and such. WTBTS showed a friendly interest and when the case was lost, all magazines were supposedly free from that point onward. It will be easy to find this case again. I have taken all comments and kept them to see what the main wishes are for those concerned with abuse. There is a general harmony of thought from what I have read.
Thank you for your time people.

Elder's letter requesting details of solicitors, barristers and accountants
by jwfacts inthere was a letter sent to elders in australia on 18th november 2015 asking for details of publishers that are solicitors, barristers and accountants.
what would be their motive for these details?
the rest of the letter outlines 8 specific pieces of information to compile and send to bethel's legal department, and reiterates to collect the information only be "as you understand, without consulting the publisher.

I think they are definitely getting money out as fast as they can. Hence the cut backs, the merging halls, the missionary work being phased out, the magazines being 1 Awake every two months and 1 Watchtower every two months. My old sister's son is an elder, and there is this huge gossip line in WT land. Nothing stays secret for long..........except for the really seriously bad stuff. -

I saw something similar last year. It was a call to all those with legal experience to come forward. I was nothing like this sort of letter, which is an odd sort of method of recruitment in my opinion. I would be majorly pissed off, if someone took it upon themselves to divulge my work, education or what ever....without my prior consent.
This is beyond the pale. Ummm..

Grabbing all the ideas. Don't worry if you repeat things. They add weight to the problems. I am watching all comments as they count. I agree with all of them.
Geoffrey Jackson was very oblique about a "pooled fund". This is why I am most interested in recent issues regarding the Australian Bethel, finances and such. Many of the older JWs here say that Australia is spiritually weak because they are too well off. I have heard this quite a few times.
If any one thinks that the RC is unaware of the fiscal games of the WTBTS,,,I would say that they are now very, very interested in their finances. At one stage I said flippantly to one of the RC staff that " it wouldn't surprise me if WT cut Australia loose for now.." He didn't laugh. Seriously, there is a sense of tension around.
I would ban all children from having to go from door to door. That is one I push truly point to. A child needs to play and rest and have fun....

Back ground insight into the RC
by umbertoecho inthis is not an attack upon the rc.
it is an example of the sheer volume of work they are dealing with and the scope of events they have dealt with.. i went to the rc support place here in wa.
it seemed that many people (staff) were dropping out from this place due to illness, holiday's ..family ....and so on.

JWdaughter.
That is my impression of the RC. No doubting, or 'prayerful" reproach, for daring to bring something to their attention. Just clear responses. If WT had a small portion of this attitude, they would they would be so much the better for it.
I accept errors because I have made so many. I feel very comfortable when there is care taken to put things right. It's a great lesson in life. This is such a new arena for the potential of legislation here.........why. Only this week, the RC has been going back over the Catholic hearings again.
