What do JW's look down on? Anyone NOT a JW
I think that says it all...
jws look down on others for saying, "bless you" if someone sneezes.
it has something to do with the demons.
another example is that it is considered satanic if a man took his hat off for a lady!

That's hardly a good way to encourage a "lost sheep" to "return to the flock"
"...personally, i fully understand why members of the governing body travel with escorts.
occasionally, ones carrying licensed firearms..." focus does the watchtower society governing body carry arms?
how about jehovah's witnesses?
Of course they have arms. Each one has 2 of them
what is it like for you when you run into someone from your happy days growing up in the kingdom hall?.
it happened to me recently, and it brought out a flood of memories about r, an old friend and mentor.. it is a service day; as we drive along route 6 in rs gray four door rambler ambassador, we pass a baptist church.
it is a thursday afternoon, sunny and warm, and r and i are on our way to the territory to make calls.
Well, Latina girls are hot
Just sayin'

Well, so much for "unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno"
I assume no one made it to South America? Lol
LITS, whenever any elder behaved in a tactless way towards me, I would throw James 1:26 at them. That never failed to shut them up
the watchtower religion is a family destroying cult.
i'm sure many of us know of people who gave their lives to the cult then have nothing and get nothing in the form of help from jw's.. i know a man who gave up a very good job with great benefits many years ago because the watchtower had a conflict with his noble occupation.
of course the end was coming very soon so the man took a meager retirement and quit because of the watchtower.
The cong which I was in had patient visitation groups. They visited the elderly in care homes too. Looks like the elders in your dad's cong are slacking badly!

Thanks for the story! Just out of curiousity... what happened to the other 3 musketeers?
we have been told this week that all in the elder and ms body will be read a letter from the gb about "make this the greatest month of activity ever"..... has anyone else had such a letter read out in their cong / servant body?.
i presume it will be all about "recommending strongly/insisting" that all these men should pioneer for the month?.
Ahh.. so what stuckinarut said about "recommending strongly / insisting" that elders / MSs pioneer turned out to be right. And my guess was correct too...
Wait.. didn't they forget a very important Bible principle?
2 Cor 9:7 - "Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, NOT grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver"

I like this new direction in which the org is heading towards. More relaxed & open, rather than being uptight & rigid
paragraph 20 out of the article in the sept 2014 study wt about fulltime service says this.... .
"full-time servants age, and so do their parents.
when parents are witnesses, likely their fondest wish is for their children to stay in their assignments.
Clarity, regarding the point that you brought up about "letting the dead bury the dead" -
One explanation of this account is that the man was lying and giving excuses. If the man's father had indeed died at that time, he would have been with his family instead of being with Jesus! The man's father had likely died much earlier and was already buried! Jesus could well have been exposing the man's hypocrisy when he said "Let the dead bury their dead," indicating that he KNEW the man's father was already dead & buried!
If one wants to find counsel on caring for elderly parents, they should look no further than 1 Tim 5: 8
