Thats the problem with society today. Everyone has a different definition of "morals". No wonder the world has gone to hell in a hand basket. Someone or something has to set the standards. No one knows right from wrong anymore.

My definition / standard is very simple: It's your choice, as long as you don't hurt me or anyone else nor do you try to impose your standards on me

I watched carefully those who left through the 30+ years when I was a regular JW. I never once saw anyone who left become more "moral". Actually quite the contrary. Smoking, drugs, sex with same sex, fornication and drunken recklessness most times. Stack atheist on that moral morass.

I believe that the more surpressed a person is, the more they would go wild once they leave! JW's are a surpressed lot & it's not surprising that many who leave would experiment which various activities which they were forbidden to engage in before

However, the perspective of morals is something which is subjective. Smoking? I don't smoke myself, nor would I encourage it, but I won't go as far as saying that a person who smokes is not moral. Same thing with drugs & getting drunk. Homosexuality? You would have a different perspective if you were born differently. Sex before marriage? I see nothing wrong with that, just practice safe sex!

Anyway, from personal experience, the things you mentioned above do not apply to those who I've seen who left, except for the fornication part, which I don't believe is wrong. With regard to the things which the OP mentioned, I would say that they are DEFINITELY more more ethical / aware in that sense. I can speak as one of them! =)

all these years, i've always dreaded waking up early for field service.

i'm a night owl & love to sleep late, so it was excruciating for me to have to wake up early in the mornings & go door knocking.

I stopped going out knocking on doors since may & i love sleeping in, making bfast & go to the gym to work out in the mornings. .. i never really liked going door knocking & always hoped no one came to the door because I never was & will be a good salesperson.. that was the very 1st thing I stop doing when I awoke & happy

May... so that makes it around 6 months. That should make you classified as "inactive" now. Congrats & welcome to the inactive club! =)

Like you, I didn't think of myself as a good salesperson. Never was able to start a study through D2D. I've had studied passed to me though, none of whom made spiritual progress (thankfully!). I was too lazy to do RV's & always had a guilty feeling about it. Then the thought struck me that the more I preached, the more bloodguilty it made me by my not calling on all those who I met, so why go out preaching & incurr bloodguilt in the first place???

I remember vividly the last time I went out in service. It was a pleasant Saturday morning & the territory was beautiful (in terms of scenery). Halfway through, my partner had to leave me to attend to something. I went to the next house & realized that I couldn't bring myself to knock without someone standing besides me! I just stood in front of the house like a dumbass. That's when I KNEW that I couldn't do it anymore!

surely someone who eagerly looks forward to the death of billions of people (including babies and children) is not emotionally healthy?.

yet, that is the key belief "happily" anticipated by witnesses.... food for thought?.

Yes, it's definitely NOT emotionally healthy. That's why you have so many JW's with anxiety disorders, emotional disturbance & distress, & depression!

Hey Data-Dog, God has to unleash Satan so that he can get the party started. Great entertainment for those in heaven! And he never likes to read hearts, just has that ability but doesn't want to use it. That's why he uses Jesus & the 144,000 to judge, with Anthony Morris sitting at Jesus's right hand. Woe to all those wearing tight pants & colored socks!
