recently susie, one of my co-workers mentioned that her husband's family were all jws.
the family converted after susie's husband left home, so he never joined the jws, nor does he intend to.
anyway another co-worker asked her: "what do the jws believe?".
Exactly. The only things people usually know about JW's are what they are NOT ALLOWED to do - no birthdays, no festivals, no blood, no homosexuality. etc. They are also aware of the organizational scandals - JW's dying because they refused blood based on distorted beliefs, child abuse cases, false prophecies (1975), etc. They also believe JW's are a cult (correctly so!). That's all most people know about the religion & that is enough to keep them disinterested!

There will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again.—Matt. 24:21.
The earthly part of Jehovah’s organization is moving ahead in various ways. For instance, our understanding of Bible truth is constantly becoming clearer. This is to be expected, for “the path of the righteous is like the bright morning light that grows brighter and brighter until full daylight.” (Prov. 4:18) But we might well ask: ‘Am I keeping pace with refinements in our understanding of Scriptural truth? Is it my custom to read the Bible daily? Am I an avid reader of our publications? Do I and my loved ones have a weekly Family Worship evening?’ Most of us will agree that it is not too hard to do these things. Often it is just a matter of setting aside time to do them. And how important it is to take in accurate Scriptural knowledge, apply it, and make spiritual progress—especially now that the great tribulation is drawing so close! w145/15 4:2, 10
10 questions to ponder about after reading this text:
1. With all the recent scandals that have hit the organization & thousands leaving as evidenced in the 2016 yearbook statistics, hasn't the organization slowed down instead of rapidly "moving ahead?"
2. If the bible is truth, why is the "truth" presented so VAGUE & AMBIGUOUS? TRUTH should be clear in itself. It DOES NOT need to "become clearer!" (40,000+ Christian denominations... nuff said)
3. If "truth" "becomes clearer" & what was previously thought to be "truth" is no longer valid, does that not make JW's false teachers?
4. Why do JW's keep using Proverbs 4:18 when that scripture has NOTHING whatsoever to do with "the changing of light?"
5. When certain "truths" are changed entirely, isn't it deceitful to use the term "refinement?"
6. Can reading the bible daily make you a BETTER person? (Try reading the old testament!)
7. If JW's are required to be "avid readers" of the organization's publications, shouldn't they be avid readers of the old publications as well which contain numerous errors & incorrect teachings?
8. Isn't it ironic how the organization promotes "Family Worship" while at the same time promotes the breaking up of families through its unscriptural shunning policy?
9. It's "not too hard to do these things?" Yes it is! I was often stressed out & tired as a JW & observed that other JW's were also faring the same due to the numerous burdens placed upon us by this stupid cult!
10. The "great tribulation is drawing so close?" Wasn't that supposed to take place in 1975? Anyway, the only great tribulation I have experienced was being stuck in this ******* cult! (now I'm free!)
there's simply no way to honestly deny that the ot condones genocide, slavery and misogyny.
there are too many passage showing yahweh commanding his people to wipe out this nation and that nation - women and innocent children included!
it leaves us with a god who wrote a book that very, very, very much seems like it condones genocide, but it doesn't, etc.. what kind of god does that?
2 Peter 3:9 - God "does not desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance."
According to JW reasoning, God "does not desire anyone to be destroyed" but came up with a vague & ambiguous book that he expects people to follow according to the interpretation of a scandal-ridden organization which is just one out of 40,000+ Christian denominations?
If you are not part of that scandal-filled organization, you will be destroyed at Armageddon together with more than 7 billion other people. If you are part of that organization, you will still be destroyed, if you are "spiritually weak", "not doing enough", "not putting the kingdom first", have a "rebellious attitude", etc...
So much for not wanting any to be destroyed!
so i'm absolutely clueless concerning relationships.
i had barely any friends at all growing up a jw kid & absolutely no interaction with "worldly" people or any guys whatsoever.
i have had a relationship of sorts with a guy for 4.5 months now, but i'm so clueless!
You're just starting to figure things out. Don't give up!
For me, I felt socially inept - AS A JW! Once out from the cult, things have changed for the better. Sure, it takes time to learn, and you make mistakes along the way... but so does everyone else! From what you said, it looks like your own insecurities are the main cause that this relationship is suffering...
Please watch the video below. I only have 2 words of advice for you:
Surprise yourself! =)
yet another sickening reminder for jw's to use emotional blackmail!.
wednesday, june 22. stop keeping company with anyone called a brother who is sexually immoral.—1 cor.
5:11.. a heartrending experience for aaron’s family is recorded at leviticus 10:1-11. they must have been devastated when fire from heaven consumed aaron’s sons nadab and abihu at the tabernacle.
Punk, I do hope so too but I currently don't see people waking up where I'm at. I personally know of more than a dozen who did, but they've all woken up before me & I don't know of any recent 'wakers' apart from myself

What is interestib to me, is they are certaimly making a push for people to shun properly. Meaning it must be a problem and possibly in their minds is causing those people to not come back.
Many JW's are fine with shunning - IF the individual involved is NOT a family member or close friend. If they are, then it's a different story altogether. Many JW's are not really following the rules that WT wants them to follow, hence the constant push to shun, shun, shun!!!

Yup... so in other words, disfellowshipped family members should be treated just as if they are dead!

OEJ, thanks for bringing up the other points. I thought the 2nd part of the text was stupid too!
But what if we were invited to attend and participate in a church wedding of a non-Witness relative? No explicit Scriptural command forbids us to attend, but there are Bible principles involved in making such a decision. Of course, we try to avoid offending our relatives, but it is usually best to speak with them in a kind, though straightforward, way—well in advance of the event. w14 11/15 3:5-7
If there is NO explicit Scriptural command as they themselves say, then it should rightfully be a conscience matter. HOWEVER, they say there are Bible principles involved (without providing any) and go on to say that "we try to avoid offending our relatives" and "speak with them in a kind, thorough, straightforward way--well in advance of the event." Which could ONLY lead to one conclusion - that JW's should NOT attend!
JW's have gone way beyond the things mentioned, as what was said by OneEyedJoe!

Stop keeping company with anyone called a brother who is sexually immoral.—1 Cor. 5:11.
A heartrending experience for Aaron’s family is recorded at Leviticus 10:1-11. They must have been devastated when fire from heaven consumed Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu at the tabernacle. What a test of faith it was for Aaron and his family not to mourn their dead relatives! Are you personally proving yourself holy with regard to not associating with family members or others who have been disfellowshipped? We may not face as severe a test as that experienced by Aaron and his family.
See what they did there? They have made it explicit that shunning = proving yourself holy. In other words, if you do not shun, you are UNHOLY. If you are not holy, you are not acceptable to Jokehova. If you are not acceptable to Jokehova, then you will be destroyed at Armageddon together with those who you did not shun! A "loving" reminder indeed!
