  Cong issues

  its seemed like in my old hall(im still in just leared tthatt) evey other local needs part we had was about either gossip or needing more effort in the ministry.

  also about brothers needing to step up and "reach out".. were/are there alot of gossip,lack of ministry support or lack of brothers in your hall when you were a jw?.

  Our cong is made up of elderly ones, disabled ones, single parents, "fatherless boys", the economically challenged, the mentally ill as a matter of fact every vulnerable group in society is represented. And yet...

  The co got up and announced one service meeting many service meetings ago that

  " the body of elders has had a meeting and decided our cong did not have any specific local needs.

  So we would just periodically review the fruits of the spirit"

  How's that for having their fingers on the pulse!

  datadog just mentioned this on his thread about the special ass day.

  so just don't forget that for this year's rc they are going deep inside........ they are going to tell us how we all are just a long and same generation and therefore we cannot determine how close the end is by observing the lifespan of humans.. but do not worry, we have the signs!!

  Gossip was horendous.

  Field service support was non existant ( anyone who did go made private arrangements)

  The body of elders were always complaining about no bro's were reaching out, but did not take steps to train/mentor anyone.

  Want to know why people accept evolution ?

  do you have questions about or want to understand evolution?

  it is a difficult concept to communicate and so if it is not explained well , it is understandable that we would dismiss it.. i sincerely want to talk with people who want to learn more or see what all the fuss is about.

  we are all learning and increasing our knowledge all the time and it is good to go over facts with critical eye.. evolution we can discuss, looking at the foundational facts and evidence, one at a time for you to go and check, agree or disagree with and return.. no pressure to accept it, you can decide for yourself, also no mocking etc of what you have to say.. .

  how many dumb repeated questions can be posed to try and make a point?.

  One lovely elder at my hall waxed lyrical about" the good ole days of the 1950's when the police had the power to persecute homosexuals".

  Ah yes, I thought, the good ole days when the police could beat you up for being black, gay or female. Things were so much better then.

  i'm not sure how else to describe this meeting at my kitchen table.

  my elderette ("miss k") arrived with her friend in tow.

  i vaguely remember the 2nd lady ("miss w") from the times we went to the kh, but like miss k, we never really talked in depth.

  Faithful Witness said- "I don't feel like she ever got to the point or conclusion of her arguement, I felt so cheated".

  That's because with JW's all argument roads lead to the same destination- that is, " this is is the way it is because the FDS says so".

  That is the bottom line, they don't really need arguments and counter arguments when their default position is " because the WT says so".

  They like to humor people by having fake "discussions" but inside themselves they are screaming "it is this way because the ORG says so".

  Somehow on some level they realise that it could be off putting to any genuine listener to say that out loud so they go to great lengths to distract you with off point issues and subjects. Remaining sane and calm during this process can be extremely hard, but sounds like you held your own. Good for you.

  a magician, a con man, a spirit medium.... will have more power over you with a single hit, than without.

  what i mean by a 'hit' is, if they convince you of something or amaze you just once intially, they can use that to hold a power over you for quite some time.. if a spirit medium was to point at you and say the name of the person you were hoping to 'talk to' on the other side, it would likely overwhelm you.

  Everything you just said about witnessing is what made me stop. Once I saw through the parlor tricks I could not continue.

  Just the thought of leaving little bread crumbs of BS out for some poor unsuspecting sod to gobble down as psuedo soulfood left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt dishonest because it is dishonest. I cringe at the thought of it now.

  where i live our health system is groaning because of high demand and underfunding.. specialist services are a nightmare to access.

  all the major political parties blame the "aging population".. but what will happen as people live longer is it just a case of more money needing to thrown into aged care?.

  But what will happen as people live longer is it just a case of more money needing to thrown into aged care?

  Is living longer such a good thing it it means being more reliant on an inadequate health system?

  Overpopulation seems to be a recurrent theme in apocalyptic movies,( may be I should'nt have watched The Road last night or world war z)

  No you were'nt vague I aggree with everything you say. Sorry if it sounded like I don't.

  I know I have an odd communication style.

  SIDEBAR:In my defense though,my temporal lobes are on the fritz because of years of siezures and AED'S.(if that provides a piece to the puzzle of me and my kookiness) END SIDEBAR.

  The thing is with me I never believed in spirit mediums or tarot, astrology fairies and unicorns but I fell for WT crap.

  Maybe I'm more gullible than I think Iam.

  Oh well, thankyou for being so gently patient with me.
