White clean shaven man runs over muslims
by silentbuddha inso in england they report a "white clean-shaven man" mowed down worshippers at a mosque.
why do they never make such detailed descriptions when muslims do the same?.
i hope this event isn't a bad turning point.

Who holds the Burden Of Proof?
by stuckinarut2 inwhen we as former witnesses wake up and choose to leave the society, it is mainly because we value truth and honesty.. the society tries to make out that we are in the wrong.
that we have "left the truth".. but, who really holds the burden of proof?
do we (who leave) need to prove that the society is not the "truth", or does the society need to prove that it is the "truth".. thoughts?.

The whole concept of supplying "proof" in a legal sense means bupkis with JWs or any religion.
They're like "Proof? You want proof? Bwa hahahaha... yeah right"
Any "proof" showing them to be wrong will only be met with the same scoff of derision.

What made you stay "in" even when you knew it wasn't the "truth"?
by mentalclarity inso i've been thinking a lot about why i stayed a jw for so long even though i had always had doubts about the doctrines.
i was born into the religion, left and came back as an adult for another decade.
some of the things that come to mind (besides the threat of shunning-and this isn't to minimize that very real threat) was:.

I stopped going to meetings before I figured it out to be untrue intellectually. I just knew I felt so bad when I was at the meetings that I couldn't do it anymore. Then, once I had created some emotional distance I started reseaching - the rest is history.

My Book Of BIble Stories is a horrific picture book for children.
The Abraham about to sacrifice his son picture says it all really.

I came across plenty of bastard elders and their families while in but I never ever participated in bringing one of them down.
I figured the congregation loved a good witch hunt of both good and not-so-good brothers and sisters and I hated that aspect of being a JW. I refused to be a part of it even if I felt a particular person had it coming. To become part of a JW "lynching mob" would make me just as bad as them and I preferred to let people crash and burn all on their own - which they usually did eventually.

William Malenfant's appalling hate speech - latest morning worship video
by doubtfull1799 inso he tries to prove that we are living in the last days without any evidence, but instead a series of unsubstantiated assertions ("never has there been a time with so much lack love and affection").
and uses things that are not even part of the so-called "sign" (abortions, pollution).
then proceeds to ridicule the "ridiculers," stereotype them, and declare they are only fit for destruction!.

No, if you can manage to explain JW life to a non jw they usually go "oh, that's terrible, I didn't know that." But, apart from the curiosity factor that's it, though they view JWs differently which is a good thing.
I have given information and literature to sexual assault counselors and psychologists in my area and they were very grateful for the insights, after dealing with jw victims and clients themselves and not knowing how to treat them. After initial interest was shown I ended up having several meetings and discussions to explain JW beliefs and mindset to these groups.
