Worse than the maggots apparently...
by NoviceLocs14 inso after a couple of years, i've finally re-established contact with a close relative (not revealing too much for privacy reasons).
it turns out that he is dfd (for the typical jw reasons, of course).
we caught up about a lot of things, including family.

Russian Ban upheld - JWs lose appeal
by OrphanCrow inthe supreme court of russia has rejected the jehovah's witnesses' appeal.. https://jw-russia.org/news/17071719-195.html.
july 17, 2017 the supreme court of russia has missed the last chance to restore law and justice for the 175,000 russian citizens professing the religion of jehovah's witnesses.
it took less than an hour of the meeting a panel of three supreme court judges, to leave unchanged the decision taken earlier by the judge yuri ivanenko, the liquidation and ban any and all registered organizations of the religion.since there is no more effective domestic remedies, the believers will appeal to the european court of human rights and other international organizations.. *note: as reported by the jworg source, jw-russia.org.

Why Are More JWs Claiming to be Anointed?
by Ding inmost jws i know claim they are happy being in the great crowd.
they'd rather live on a paradise earth and pet lions than go to heaven.. heaven is a place they can't relate to, a place where they don't expect their friends and loved ones to be.. so why are more and more jws claiming to be of the anointed?.
aren't they looked down upon as if they are crazy, proud, ignorant, or engaging in apostate thinking?.

I think there are people that have actually begun to wake up but their cognitive dissonance is such that they think it means they're annointed. I see this as a good sign it could mean there are many JWs that are unsettled, dissatisfied and looking for more.

Some Good News About Me (Although Anthony Morris Will Be Furious)
by pale.emperor injust wanted to share with you some good news i'm really excited about.
i have been accepted for university to study psychology and counseling.
my goal is to become a counselor and, in time, to specialize on treating those who have left high control relationships/groups like we all did.. it'll take a few years before im qualified but studying in university has been a dream of mine since i was 12, which was systematically dashed to pieces by watchtower.. .

Just sittin' and mindin' my own business...
by Distracted ini was sitting at a local city event enjoying watching an activity.
a friendly looking woman dressed in blue jeans and a floppy hippy looking top came and sat down besides me.
she notices i am sketching and says she likes to do this too.

Do these people not know how creepy they are?
I always found the idea of "informal witnessing" distasteful and dishonest even when I was in.
Although, I always had a problem with being too honest I would go the door and say "Hi, I am a Jehovahs Witness and I 'm here to offer you a bible study, are you interested?
I was told it was "too forthright." 🤐

Starting To Wake Up
by Searching ini suppose after lurking around for a few weeks i thought i might share my own personal story, as i think it would probably be a very freeing experience for me right now.
to start off, at 23 years old i'm actually a third-generation jw, my grandparents were baptized (my grandfather is actually an elder) when my mother was only a toddler, she was raised as a witness, then of course, married a witness and thus myself and my two brothers were born-in's.
growing up my mother was always very careful about what she taught me, all the good things for sure, about how we would live in a paradise earth and i could pet all the animals that i wanted and not worry about growing old, and she'd ask me who in the bible i'd love to see and talk with - my grandparents however, were a different story and the cause of i think, most of my childhood trauma.. they really drilled home the fact that we were the only people who were going to be saved, we were the only people that were going to survive and that everyone else was going to die horribly - that i shouldn't try to make that many friends in school because they would never be "real" friends unless they were fellow jw's and they would die anyway.

Good for you, it's good to think critically about these things.
The rabbit hole is deep and there is much to research, this is an exciting time to wake up you'll be so glad you did.

Lott video and " Vanity" of modern JW women
by Diogenesister inone thing i picked up from the " remember the wife of lott" video was the amount of time the jw women gave over to improving their looks.. in days of old i doubt a jw wife would have been portrayed in a salon having a lot of beauty treatments .. that's not to say it would be looked down on, per sa, i just doubt it would have been portrayed on official propaganda videos as an acceptable way for jw women to spend time that could be otherwise given over to promoting " kingdom interests".
given the way the org uses anything to belittle women i'm surprised they let those scenes fly without negative comment.. just a minor point ....i know the vids have been done to death by now!!

Witnesses are amongst the most image obsessed people I have ever met. The sisters act like hollywood starlets, especially at conventions, I remember the little girls dressed up bridesmaids it's all so absurd.
What this cult does to people is sad and infuriating because they create this appearance obsessed environment then counsel people for being appearance obsessed! The men are just as obsessed too btw.

Do I have to believe in Jesus to be saved?
by unsure indo i have to believe in jesus to be saved?.
i was raised as a jehovah's witness.
i was born in.

Unsure - Has it ever occurred to you that if the Jesus story is true then Jesus already died for you, me and everyone, the "price" has been paid, you don't need to be saved you already are and always have been. Religion sells conditional "salvation" because they want to keep you donating money and being enslaved to them.
