Couple of real gems in the WT study for this upcoming weekend
by sir82 insince blondie seems to still be on sabbatical, i'll take the liberty of highlighting a couple of "gems" from this week's upcoming study, from the article "reject worldly thinking".. from paragraph 12:.
is it true that succeeding in a secular career that offers power and prestige leads to lasting happiness?
remember that the craving to control others and the longing to be admired are the desires that enticed satan, but he is angry, not happy.. .

How would they know about secular careers that come with power and prestige they've never had one. That's why they had to join a cult to get psuedo power and prestige.

A New World is here, and YHWH's version is out of date
by fulltimestudent inthat highly emotive headline is just to have a wack at bible believers.
but the world around is showing so many signs of change, that it's certainly looking like something new is here.. for example, driverless cars and buses are now possible.
and its the buses that are already hitting the road.. watch this video, and say hello to the usa's olli:.

I for one would welcome driverless cars, buses etc. Too many idiot drivers and road deaths.
Slaughter bots- wow just wow!
The movie Infinity Chamber on netflix is about prisons fully operated by computers and bots. Brave new world.

For Smiddy: Cool and Damp
by compound complex ingosh, smiddy, it's nice to have a request for poetry!.
"the black oaks" describes where i live in the california sierra foothills; we are, for the most part, above the fog and below the snow.
nevertheless, we do get both occasionally.

Love the painting CoCo. Confessed fog lover here too. As a painter myself I love the californian impressionists and tonalists.

Are JWs capable of a genuine discussion?
by stuckinarut2 ini was just pondering whether jws are capable of having a calm, in depth discussion about religious or faith topics?.
i have just finished listening to a great podcast by "dogma debate" (dan) episode 333. this fantastic, in-depth conversation between a theist and an atheist was a masterful example of how a dignified conversation can take place without it resorting to abruptness or even nastiness.. jws on the other hand seem incapable of having such discussion without ending up in the following ways:.
1)they get dogmatic and defensive if a differing view is presented.. 2)if the conversation doesn't go their way, they cut it short saying something like "well, we had better agree to disagree" or the like.. so why the arrogance?

No, they are not capable of genuine discussion in their fully indoctrinated state the JW program running in their brain won't allow it. Garbage in garbage out.
That's why I feel they need some sort of "short sharp shock" in the form of saying something they will find completely unexpected to disrupt the JW feedback loop in their brain for a few seconds or minutes. Enough to allow a tiny window of time for a critical thought to get in that may resurface later after the conversation has ended. That's how most people wake up in tiny snippets rather than all at once, it's a process.

Goodbye my friends.
by StephaneLaliberte infor almost 12 years now, i have been coming to this site on a regular basis and in the last 5, i “faded out”.
i never regretted this and never will.
unfortunately though, yesterday, i realized that, until i can publically tell all my old acquaintances why i have left, i will never be truly free.

The Governing Body's credibility
by UnshackleTheChains ingiven the proliferation of websites, youtube channels, books and other forms of media attention focusing on the extreme policies, teachings and scandals of the watchtower bible and tract society; where does this now leave the governing body's credibility?.

There has been the odd local story and two minute mentions here and there of the ARC and a convention but really nothin much at all.

Their credibility with who the gov, media the public or with JWs themselves?
Coz nobody where I live talking about the terrible horrible no-good very bad JWorg except ex-jws on the internet. So I'd say their cred is still intact by the default of nobody giving a shit.

Jw carts
by Jrjw ini was just thinking it would be funny if apostates set up jwfacts carts and placed them in areas where the jws do their metropolitan witnessing to unwitness to people the witnesses have spoken to.
it would probably get the jws backs up like or it would stop the cart witnessing altogether.

Everything triggers JW snowflakes into armageddon thinking. Polite questions "trigger" them. Seeing an apostate out shopping "triggers" them. Getting a text from an inactive relative "triggers" them. Seeing a news report "triggers" them. Christmas "triggers" them. Office parties "trigger" them.......
There's a term for that it's called emotional blackmail.

It would have an effect - one of causing the JW cart people to run away. If setting up carts becomes so "triggering" for them maybe they won't want to do it anymore.
