Maybe they are getting paranoid about the press, the public and apostates getting access to the literature now. The annual meeting is a more intimate gathering one where they are preaching to the choir not the press or the public and a meeting where they can control who gets invited.
Just a thought, but discontinuing RCs if they cost more to produce than the donations they generate is definitely a possiblity.
it's been a very long time since i read any of the watchtower literature.
because of something i came across, i decided to see how things have changed (yet still the same).
anyways the article i read on the jw org site, and this article was dealing with teens.
They are speaking to the fully obedient indoctrinated WT robot everyone else just switches off.
we had a very succesfull and emotional protest in front of the dutch branch offcie.several survivors gave impressive speeches.
the mayor gave a speech and one of the dutch mp's did as well.. i will try to post sevaral dutch media items on our youtube channel this week with english subs.. during this protest a manifesto was presented and read to the audience.
the jws were invited to receive this manifesto.

a couple of times while i was anti-witnessing i have made a fundamental mistake, which was to try to show the believer that it was neither intellectually nor scientifically necessary for there to be a creator.
the discussion got to this point because i said i was an atheist.. this latest time was talking to a street preacher who was not a j.w, but he did the same thing they do, i.e not really listen to the points i made, tried to rubbish science etc.. i have decided when, (if), this happens again i shall say something along the lines of " whoa there !
you have done a huge leap from talking about your bible god to the matter of a creator, if i concede there was a creator, how can you prove it was your god ?".
Yeah could work with some. People tend to stay in a situation with a set of beliefs until the (perceived) cost of staying becomes greater that the cost of changing. They will believe what they want until they don't want to anymore.
I've often thought that arguing from the position of agreement (at least hypothetically anyway) of a creator as your starting point and going from there may work with someone who still has some ability to reason and an ounce of personal integrity left, IOW a JW unicorn!

i had the meeting yesterday and there it was announced that there will be a new law passed in spain regarding personal data.
that law makes it compulsory for the wt spanish branch to collect a signed permission from the publishers to keep and utilize personal data.
no choice was given to us, we were just told to make sure we hand in our signed permissions before may 18th.
Take the form and draw a penis on it, but don't sign it.

it was announced at our clam that there "was no shipment of the october study editions of the watchtower" and that they were asking if people could just use electronic or make their own copies.. is this just happening in ohio, or did you hear the same thing?.
