Once again pregnancy and conception, little to nothing to do with marriage.
I always thought two people got married because they loved each other and not because they were biologically capable of making babies. Was I mistaken?
title pretty much explains it all.
lots of people are getting married at midnight tonight.. what do you guys think?
maybe if anyone gets called on by a jw this weekend you can ask them what they think about it.. im just glad because it shows that religion doesn't define our conscience, that basic human decency can prevail over time and hopefully, these types of gradual but big changes will be present in the wts too in the future .

bigmac you do know you just described a civil union right? Those have been around for a while now. The problem is that by having to place a special label on same sex marriage to "uphold tradition" you're still just saying that the two types of marriage aren't equal.
Then you bring family into it which, nowadays at least, have little to do with marriage. You can have children without being married and vice versa. Also there's this thing called adoption that some people like to try when, for whatever reason, they can't have children naturally. I seriously hope you're not saying gay people shouldn't get married because they can't have children naturally.
The problem with traditions is that people sometimes just blindly follow them. What practical function does having only traditional marriage serve society today that will disappear now that same sex marriage is legal?

To the second thing you said, it's not that hard. If they're a man, they're the husband, if they're a woman, they're the wife. you seem to be assuming that there HAS to be a "wife" or it isn't a marriage.
Marriage definition:
1. the formal union of a man and a woman two people, typically as recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife. spouses.
was that really so difficult?

bigmac that's my 2nd least favourite reason for someone to be against gay marriage. Tradition. Basically the idea that we shouldn't try something new because that's not how people did it before and they felt no need to change it.
I think it's pretty flawed reasoning. Just to illustrate:
*just after marriage was invented*
Person A (gay person wanting to get married): Hey I'm about to marry this man
Person B: Nope, can't do that.
Person A: why not?
Person B: Marriage should be between a man and a woman. God said so and Bob is writing it down somewhere so people don't forget it.
Person A: Yeah bu-
Person B: No same sex marriage. End of.
*present day*
Person A: hey we appreciate the sentiment behind the whole "civil union" thing but it still doesn't feel like we're being treated equally
Person B: yeah well to allow gays to get married would mean that the meaning of the word would be changed
Person A: So? Meanings of words change all the time.
Person B: well that would go against tradition.
Oh if I could complete legend of zelda twilight princess without getting too scared

Still waiting for the country to fall apart. Anyone know how to build a home-made panic shelter?
If dying is as uneventful as the wts say then I wouldn't mind dying at armageddon right now tbh

one of the things that bothered me as a jw was how whenever i was on the ministry with someone it was pretty much the same sh*t being said every time.
also, it wasn't very stimulating when you had a question and got the same response every time.. i was just curious as to when this started happening.
did the gb decide one day that the majority of jws don't know how to answer the simple questions in the way they would like so they had to write them for them?
im starting to think sending every householder to jw.org is just a way of the gb getting rid of the middle man and eventually "cyber-witnessing" will take over

It also undermines the whole "coming to an accurate knowledge" thing if people are just reciting something they heard at a meeting a couple of Tuesdays ago.
Is it just a way to control the R & F? When did it start?
would love to hear your thoughts
