In my congregation there were about twice as many people and there are two congregations that use this particular hall. A lot of them were family/friends of some people that came over from spain recently

So Spill the Beans, Brothers: Were There More or Fewer At this Year's Bore-Fest
by steve2 inthe jw date-worshipped memorial has just completed its bleak worldwide commemoration.
that wasn't a dust cloud you saw; it was a millionfold hearts limply beating themselves into another round of great tribulation expectations.
i was knocked into a deep, deep sleep by the imagined experience of being at several thousand consecutive kingdom halls as the platformed drones spat forth the predictable sludge that, once released, hits and stains white clothing and bleach is useless.. we know that memorial attendance worldwide has dipped for two consecutive years since 2011 when it reached a high of 19,374,737 and for the promised land, obama's usa, the all time memorial attendance high was also 2011 when it hit over 2.5million (2,563,518) but shrunk in shame back to 2,502,055 in 2012 and spluttered upwards a handful or two to 2,504,114 last year.. so, what was attendance at the date-obsessed bore-fest this year in your neck of the woods?

Our speaker kept mentioning that when Jesus said "this is my body/blood" he wasn't being literal like "some churches teach" like up until now, no one knew

I had to go and there was this woman who I could tell was finding it really boring. During the meeting there was a team of about 5 babies scattered around the hall that were all dead-set on making as much noise as possible and we both had to stop ourselves laughing. The sister who invited her also had to stop her fom eating the bread because the speaker only went on about the earthly and heavenly hope but without mentioning that only some could partake.
There was also this weird moment when they were passing the bread and wine around and because they didn't want the younger children to spill anything, the brother just held it for them and let them touch the plate/glass.

On the way to the memorial today my mum and I had a conversation that pretty much went like this:
mum: Duvan try not to be too frank if someone asks why you haven't been to a meeting in a while
me: what do you mean?
mum: well instead of saying things like you don't believe in god or that the bible is god's word, just say that you aren't sure about some things
me: why should I do that, if they're my beliefs why does it matter how I say it?
mum: well because when you say things like that I'm worried that you sound like an apostate. I haven't given birth to an apostate have I?
me: wait what IS an apostate?
mum: you know, those people that say things about the witnesses on the internet etc
me: what do they say
mum: I don't know, apostate things
that last part isn't exactly what she said but I know it made the same amount of sense as what she said

A point which virtually every JW will miss in this week's book study
by sir82 infrom this week's book study, the "draw close to jehovah" book, chapter 5:.
biologists have identified well over a million species of living things on earth; yet, opinions vary as to whether there may be as many as 10 million, 30 million, or more.. .
wow!

tried to point this out to my mum and a brother once. My mum decided to "wait on jehovah" and the brother completely ignored it

BLOOD MOON and
by NAVYTOWN inhad anyone heard any jws talk about the fact that a blood moon lunar eclipse is going to happen on the night of the memorial?
i can't imagine that at least some witnesses aren't saying this event is a biblical 'sign' that amageddon is getting very close.
there will be four blood moons between now and fall 2015.....a very rare celestial happening.

Where I live only the partial eclipse will be visible

Deuteronomy 22:28,29. Thank Jebus nobody pays attention to this f*cked up part of "God's inspired word" any more.
by DuvanMuvan in28 if a man happens to meet a virgin girl who is not engaged and he seizes her and lies down with her and they are discovered,+29 the man who lay down with her must give the girls father 50 silver shekels, and she will become his wife.+ because he humiliated her, he will not be allowed to divorce her as long as he lives.
" -nwt 2013 revised edition.
was just on the thread about lot and his messed up family life and was reminded of another part of the bible that made me feel physically sick the first time i read it.

Island man i've heard that can happen too but for obvious reasons i'm no expert.
I'm just shocked at how i could ever think that these were god's people. Whoever wrote this book is sick.

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

jw07 that sounds like an excellent idea

DD i think i remember reading on the online library in some publication where they try to justify Lot offering his daughters to those men. The way they put it was (pretty much) "Lot wanted to protect the angels so badly that he even tried to offer his virgin daughters to the men." and they list a number of reasons for why he might have been a complete ass-wipe
