What I actually liked about being a JW was being "right," having the "truth," having God's "approval." Then one day it dawned on me that I probably wasn't right," I might not have the "truth," and I likely didn't have God's "approval."

DID YOU KNOW ANY JWs WHO ACTUALLY LIKE BEING ONE ?
by Summer wine inwhat i mean is, ones who loved the meetings and field service.
ones who loved telling a person why they dont celebrate christmas, birthdays etc etc.........................ones who thought it wonderful that their children missed out on so much, and stood out in school and became a target for bullying.. i myself did everthing because i was terrified of the big "a" and so thought everything was worth it.
but i hated going to meetings, hated going on fs, hating not celebtating christmas and never really excepted the birthday thing.

What is up with the obesity doctrine?
by kzjw ini'm a ubm, and the wife went to the assembly.
she didn't discuss the obesity issue with me, but my mother-in-law is obese.
so i'm just wondering how that would make her feel?

Gluttony is one of the actual sins mentioned in the bible. Since they enforce all the ones they've added, I've wondered why they haven't bothered to enforce this actual requirement.
So how does one measure gluttony? Or obesity? Is it 10% over normal body weight, 20, 30, 40, or 50%? And who makes the determination?
I know a few elders who would have to step down if it were even 50% over. Of course, gluttony would not have to be ongoing. What if one just overindulged one or two times? And how does one define overindulgence? Would it be as sinful as having one or two cigarettes?

Being a Jehovah's Witness Can Make You Fat
by WTWizard inas there has been some talk lately of a crackdown on obesity (in the form of the great boasting session), it might be time for a thread about how being one of jehovah's witlesses can lend one to becoming fat.. first, my personal situation.
when i was in college, i gained the 4x15 pounds that were supposed to be gained in college, and it was only my sophomore semester.
it was legitimately my fault.

I have "bought out the opportune time" to exercise at the local gym three to four times a week. Where did I find the time? You guessed it! And yes, I have my weight down to where it ought to be.

"He's the Last Doughboy" - end of a generation
by Bonnie_Clyde inan article i saw in the detroit free press about a month ago.
frank buckles at age 107 is the sole surviving u.s. veteran of world war i. there were 4 million american veterans of the first world war and frank is the only one left.
interesting, the term that the article uses in the 3rd paragraph: "it will salute a generation that led the nation through a great war, a great depression, a great renewal.".

An article I saw in the Detroit Free Press about a month ago.
Frank Buckles at age 107 is the sole surviving U.S. veteran of World War I. There were 4 million American veterans of the first world war and Frank is the only one left. Interesting, the term that the article uses in the 3rd paragraph: "It will salute a generation that led the nation through a Great War, a Great Depression, a great renewal."
Do you think that Armageddon will have to come before Mr. Buckles passes away?

Calling all ex JWs .God is as upset with the Watchtower Society as you are!
by Philippus79 inthe campaign continues: .
"calling all ex jws.god is as upset with the watchtower as you are!
he has therefore rejected that church and appointed the lords witnesses as the last true christian church to replace them.

The even better news is that the Kingdom of God has begun. Satan’s rulership ended on 2008 Nisan14, 6,000 years after Adam sinned and the world began. Adam sinned 33½ years after he was born since Jesus gave a corresponding ransom and paid for that sin 33½ years after he was born to Mary. So 1975 was just a lifetime too early!
Could you be off one year? I was thinking that we counted the 6,000 years from the autumn of 4026 B.C.E. taking us to the autumn of 1975. 33-1/2 years from then would be the spring of 2009.

different congregations
by BR25 ini know that most of you dont believe in the jw faith anymore, but do any of you think certain things might have went different for you if in a different congregation?
ive mentioned before that i believe in what the jws believe.
im asking this question though because ive been to a couple of congregations in different areas and ive found some to be more heartworming, more open, and happier than others.

You're right. Many JW's are "warm, concerned, caring and helpful as long as you are useful in the congregation. When you get sick or old, most of these people disappear. I've always said, the few acts of kindness that you do see are not because of the organization, but despite the organization. As stated, individuals are great. Many JW's are warm, concerned, caring, helpful.
That is until you upset things.
At a time when my family and I needed help, support and love. People we had known for 25+ years turned their backs on us.

"The Word" Who is He? According to John
by BONEZZ inwould that be john ritter?
john wayne?
no, seriously i came across this wtbs booklet called that, from 1962...right after they introduced their new bible translation.

I remember that booklet. It was released during my pioneering days, and I was big into studying. Had almost all the scriptures and arguments memorized--as if any of it really mattered. I used some of those arguments in field service, too. What surprised me is that some householders came up with arguments in favor of the Trinity I hadn't thought of.

Does anybody actually believe in the Global Warming swiz?
by The Nothing Man inobviously by my post title you can gather that i don't, but thats not to say i do not agree with lowering pollution in whichever way we can.
but on the flip side, just another money grabbing ploy by the government?
the uk government is making a big thing about it through their mouthpiece on earth, the bbc.

The other theory is that we are just going back to normal. We were warmer in the First Dark Ages than we are now, even with the present global warming. We hit a Little Ice Age soon into the Renaissance, and we just got out of that early in the 20th century. So, even though we have global warming, it is just returning to something near normal.
Thanks for mentioning this. Clyde and I watched a program on TV called "Little Ice Age." Just a few degrees drop in temperature caused untold problems for a two or three centuries, causing food shortages, and many believe it was a factor in causing the bubonic plague and even the French revolution. It wasn't until the warming trend that things got better. Let's be thankful it's getting warmer, although I'm not sure about the last couple of years.

Why don't Elders who are sick and elderly ever step down?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inin my 35 years as a witness, there have been many elders in my congregation who were old, sick, tired, weak, and could hardly walk.
they had a hard time reading the material, couldn't remember names, and sometimes forgot where they were in their reading material and talks.they never stepped down as elders.. what are the reasons why most never step down?
can they be asked to step down because of age?
-
Bonnie_Clyde
I'm surprised at your responses. If an elder were asked to step down just because they were old or sick, we would say, "Look what they do to you when you're no longer useful in the congregation."
