by Sabin inso my hubby has been on a bit of a roll about the jdubs, we were talking a lot about them & he said the buzz word he hate's the most is "worldly" why?
because he say's "with that one word they have condemned (according to their believes) a person as being worthy of nothing but death.

Good news to report: Congregations merged because lack of attendance, publishers & field service
by Khaleesi inso it's official, i am happy to report that we merged with another congregation having the same problem.
why is it good news???
because people are either waking up, fading or just not buying into this organization any longer or walking away.... i think many young ones are just not buying into it as much, i see many in the congregation i go to very depressed and some i know personally going thru major depression especially the young "sisters" in their early 20s.... .

I just found out that 2 congregations in lower Michigan closed recently...Morenci, which is near the Ohio border, and Coldwater. I asked if the reason was because of a shortage of elders and was told no, it was because neither one could afford to remodel. Now both congregations have to drive to Hillsdale, Michigan, for their meetings. The people in Morenci have a 45-minute drive and the people in Coldwater have a 33-minute drive. Too bad the WT can't afford to help them remodel! I understand that neither KH has been sold...yet. Just sitting empty.

$10 per pub. Money begging session last night
by StarTrekAngel inlast night, during our "christian life and ministry" meeting, we had a session on local needs.
elder opened the talk with a disclaimer saying that this was a reminder (cited psalms about how david loved jehovahs reminders).
he reminded us of how bless we are of having our own local assembly hall.

Well folks! I've been around for a long time and I remember when we used high schools for our circuit assemblies. Some high schools (early 70's) cost $1,000 for the weekend (3 days), others were free...I know that because Clyde was in accounting. Then they proposed construction of an assembly hall with the excuse that it was cheaper than having to pay rent for a facility. Huh!
I also remember a scripture in Acts (would have to look it up) where we would tell people that early Christians met in school auditoriums and that we follow their example.
I also remember that we rented a facility for the Kingdom Hall. In our city it was a room above a grocery store and a bar. They finally build a Kingdom Hall in 1959, but it was pretty basic, even had a concrete floor...not acceptable these days.

Just got my annual advertisement from Illinois International Travel (apparently run by JW’s). For $1,199 I can take a tour from September 17-25. Why are they printing so much Bible literature if the witnesses are supposed to be using tablets?
Saturday: First stop at New York’s Newark Airport, then transferred to a Marriott hotel.
Sunday: Depart by private motorcoach to Manhattan for sight-seeing tour of New York City. Tour guide will point out interesting sights as the Empire State Building, Times Square, Rockefeller Center, 5th Avenue, Central Park, Chinatown, the Garment District, Wall Street, Ground Zero and much more.
Optional boat tour to see the Statue of Liberty including all of the Society’s buildings for the boat as you pass under the Brooklyn Bridge.
Monday: Depart on our motorcoach to visit the factory and Bethel Home at Watchtower Farm to see the latest expansion work taking place at Wallkill to enlarge all the facilities. The bindery line has 33 machines that can produce 50,000 books and Bibles a day or 120 per minute. The paperback book line assembles 100,000 books a day. There are now over 25 million pieces of Bible literature printed annually in more than 360 languages. In the shipping department, you will see how literature requests for over 15,000 congregations in the United States and Canada are processed each month on conveyors that are 1.5 miles long. See how literature is printed differently for those who are in prisons and for those that can only read Braille.
After lunch, it is a one hour drive to the Watchtower Educational Center in Patterson where the Bible School of Gilead and other schools are held. Since its beginning, Gilead School has sent more than 7,000 missionaries to over 200 lands and islands.
The Patterson auditorium seats 1,700 for the Gilead graduation, the Bethel Family Watchtower Study and other special programs. Branch committee members from around the world also gather here for an 8-week course designed to unify the work of the Branch Offices.
Tuesday: Our private motorcoach will travel over the Brooklyn Bridge to visit the world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Your tour will begin at the Brooklyn Bethel Office where the work for over 100 Branch Offices is coordinated. This is where the Governing Body is located that handles materials related to the preaching activity worldwide. Under the direction of the writing committee, material is prepared here that will be published worldwide. It is then sent to Branches around the world so it can be translated into different languages.
Wednesday: As mentioned in the Kingdom ministry, your visit to Bethel will be encouraging and educational. You will see how Bethelites of all ages enjoy working, eating and studying together at the World Headquarter….Encouragement to visit various places in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Thursday: Either return to home town or continue to Washington D.C. to visit United States Capitol Building, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, Washington Monument, Smithsonian and the White House.
Friday: Visit the Holocaust Museum which is dedicated to the story of how many people were persecuted by the Nazis. In the resource center there are documents and interviews with Jehovah’s Witnesses who were victims of Nazi rule.
Saturday and Sunday: Free to visit points of interest returning home on Sunday.

Did I imagine a brief thaw in the Watchtower injunction against going to university?
by slimboyfat inokay i was talking to an elder and he said me going to university was a bad idea and i should have listened to the society and not gone.
but i said that when i went to university the watchtower was saying it might not be a bad idea to go to, as long as you do it for the "right reasons", don't associate with worldly people, and keep clear of "damaging ideas".
but basically they said it was okay, in this "changing world" and job market to go to university.

Our youngest son graduated in 1992 and enrolled in the local university. That was the year that the Society lightened their stance a little. It wouldn't have mattered though but it was nice not getting a lot of criticism. He would have been very unhappy to be a window washer. His income is well into 6 digits

I have a copy of the 1991 Elder's manual that belonged to my father (now deceased). I didn't find any of those notes on page 74...just a reference to a 6/90 KM. I think he attended all the meetings, at least up till April1996. I suppose those instructions could have come later. -

Thank you Splash. Just what I wanted. Clyde wants to show this to his friend who is a UBM. This guy has been married for 50 years to a woman who is still indoctrinated. It's hard to imagine how he managed to sit through the meetings all those years. -

Almost 60 years ago, The Watchtower made a prediction that has proven to be amazingly accurate.
by Bonnie_Clyde ini haven't posted for quite awhile, just usually lurk, but thought surely someone would have noticed this on jw.org.
this was under the article about distractions.
i clicked on the article and below is the "accurate" prediction that the wt made back in 1958. this has to prove they have jehovah's backing, don't you think?

5 Concerning distractions, how does the world we live in compare with the world of Bible times? “Never in history has mankind boasted superior means of communication, high speed printing presses, profusely illustrated magazines, the radio, movies, television. . . . They bombard us daily with fresh distractions . . . Not too long ago, it was fondly thought that ours was ‘The Age of Enlightenment.’ More and more it is becoming ‘The Age of Distraction.’” These words were spoken to a group of students in the United States over 60 years ago. “Distractions,” said The Watchtower of September 15, 1958, “will likely increase as this world nears its doom.” How true!
