C.O. visit; They sound desperate.
by TonyT inmy mother recently told me that the congregation was scolded by their district sales manager....errr circuit overseer for poor meeting attendance.
it seems that at times attendance would sink as low as 60%.
she didn't respond when i said that maybe there was something good on television that night.

I remember a few years ago--may father (an elder) criticically mentioned a ministerial servant who hadn't been to the meeting much lately. I told him, "Do you realize that he has been diagnosed with cancer." The reply, "Well if he can make it to work, he can make it to the meetings." No thought that perhaps this brother may have had to continue working to pay medical bills and support his family. I can imagine how exhausted he must have been at the end of the day.

Then and now - dating practices
by larc ini was in high school from 1954 to 1958. we did not have junior high at that time.
we had grades, 1 though 8, and high school 9 though 12. .
at any rate, we were encouraged to shop around and date several people, just like the rest of society.

Larc, I was a year behind you in high school. You are exactly right. We didn't have all those restrictions back then. Yes, we had fun parties and all my witness friends actually behaved themselves at least by our standards back then. I do remember kissing. Petting? I don't know about my friends, but it didn't happen with me until I was engaged. However, back then the only thing that would lead to disfellowshipping was fornication which then was defined as intercourse. Petting was described as "loose conduct" but that was between you and God. I asked God for forgiveness and everything was OK. It wasn't required to go to the committee (they didn't have elders back then).
We didn't totally enforce the new rules (chaperoning) on our children when they were growing up in the 80's; two of our children were publicly reproved (for petting)--only because they were honest. Several of the kids in our congregation were excellent liars and managed to avoid punishment.

Whip them hard, make them cry WT 05/01/05
by hamsterbait inaccording to the "new light " on sheep and goats, nobody is judged as unworthy of a resurrection if he dies before christ sits down on his glorious throne.
the judging is done in situ not in retrospect.
yet the wt 05/01/05 p. 22 says to jws:.

So if a JW dies before Armageddon while in the state of displeasing Jehovah (according to WT rules), it wouldn't be appropriate to speak about the hope of the resurrection during the funeral discourse?

What Is The Unpardonable Sin?
by JH in.
in your words, what would be the unpardonable sin?
give examples.... .
-
Bonnie_Clyde
The unpardonable sin is the sin that you don't ask forgiveness for because you didn't commit it. Therefore you did not ask forgiveness for it so it cannot be forgiven. Example: The spirit-directed organization of God did not commit the heinous crime of spiritual adultery by joining the United Nations. Therefore, the organization cannot be forgiven for this sin, and by doing this, it has committed the unpardonable sin.
The forgoing is a message from Clyde, my other half. I've posted a few times, but he never has.

I had a hard time putting the book down. I couldn't believe it how so many things that he talked about I remembered. Example--when the Watchtower announced that now the brothers in Mexico were free to practice their religion openly, I said to Clyde, "I didn't know the brothers in Mexico were being persecuted. How come we weren't writing letters of protest like we did for the brothers in Malawi?" Then I found out what really happened.
I wondered why even in the years before 1975 we were getting so many conflicting articles--first an article promoting 1975, then another that said we weren't serving for a date. Clyde, even back then, said that there was had to be conflict in Bethel even though he had absolutely no firsthand knowledge. After reading Ray's book, we found out that there absolutely was all kinds of conflict at Bethel.
I remember a sister back then saying back in the 1970's that her brother-in-law at Bethel lamented that one of their biggest problems for Bethelites traveling to foreign countries was the blood issue, because it was required that they be vaccinated with vaccines that contained blood fractions. I think it was in 1978 that the Society lighted up on the fractions saying it was a matter of conscience. I wonder if that was a reason why fractions were suddenly OK.
I remember looking at history books when I was in highschool about the fall of Jerusalem, trying to find the 607 B.C. date and couldn't find any corroboration, but finally concluded that they just didn't have the insight that our Organization had. Thanks to Ray I now know the truth about that.

There apparently has been a change in understanding as to what Elijah and Moses represent. I went to my first meeting in six months today because the Circuit Overseer was there and I wanted to see what had to say. There was a shortened version of the WT and I didn't hear any comment about a change during the study; however, during the final prayer, the CO made reference to the adjustment in our understanding of what Elijah and Moses represented. Thanks for your info as now I won't have to look it up.

Tough day -- my mom died today
by cruzanheart inpoor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.

I'm so sorry. You Mom's story sounds so much like mine, seven years with Alzheimers. It seemed like her life was over long before she actually passed. When she died, the only way I could handle it was to go back to the house and go through all the old albums. I try to pull out the old memories rather than the ones when she was sick, but sometimes it's hard. I hope that medical science can find a cure!

Look at the last page: Instructions are given on how to pray on a Bible Study. First, a sister accompanied by a brother would have to have her head covered, if she is the one who prays. Well we've known that for years!
But get this! It says we should ask for Jehovah's blessing on the study, we should mention Jehovahs's organization, but no mention whatsoever is made about Jesus Christ.
Come to think of it, I guess that's not new either.
