  What Subjects Get You All Riled Up???

  on this board, 2 things seem to get to people-----politics and child abuse......does anything get you upset or passionate.

  I managed to keep my mouth shut for years with my relatives knowing that saying anything would get me in trouble. Then, in the summer of 2004, my daughter and son-in-law came back from the district assembly. Apparently something was said about how foolish it was that SOME brothers had sold their homes and property in anticipation of 1975. For the first time, I must have gotten "riled up" because I opened my mouth and told them that the WT had encouraged selling their homes and property. My son-in-law said ihe would have to see that in writing. He said, "There is a faithful and discreet slave." I said nothing. A couple of weeks later I produced it in writing, but in the meantime they went to my father who was in a long-term care situation and got him to turn all of his property over to them. It looks like I have been completely disinherited.

  I later learned that they told my father that I had questioned the faithful and discreet slave.

  So the 1975 fiasco gets me about as riled up as anything. With Clyde it is the UN scandal. Blood and shunning are right there at the top too.

  i remember that this book was a recommended reading list on this forum.

  i bought the book and have read about three chapters--just having a hard time getting interested in it.

  can anyone tell me if they read it or enjoyed it?

  Campaign to destroy "lol"

  i'm not sure where this idea came from, but apparently it's been discovered that hardly anyone is actually "laughing out loud" when using the term "lol".

  lol if they really are laughing out loud, there is something wrong with them (they could be retarded or have a bad sense of humor lol).

  please show your support for my new cause in which i attempt to bannish the term lol from the english language.

  well i'm still a witness so i was out in field service yesterday with this brother.

  our conversation hit the usual stuff cars, television, movies.

  then he went on to relate how about a month ago, the two head elders (head as in, the other elders really dont matter)took him into the back room and fryed him.

  This brother should obey the elders. He should quit one or both jobs. Here is an exact quote from our district assembly this summer: " To fail to obey is really to reject the word of Jehovah. Failing to obey is no different than divination or idolatry."

  He had better obey or else!!!!

  it was several months after the 11-1-99 wt question from readers that stated that, "each one of jehovah's witnesses makes a decision based on his bible-trained conscience and an understanding of his responsibility to god and to the state.

  It must have been in the year 2000 when our circuit overseer gave a talk about voting. I believe this same talk was given in all congregations. It was several months after the 11-1-99 WT Question from Readers that stated that, "Each one of Jehovah's Witnesses makes a decision based on his Bible-trained conscience and an understanding of his responsibility to God and to the State." Of course, it went on to give five reasons why Jehovah's Witnesses would not vote.

  Back to the CO: He referred back to the QFR and said that some witnesses had the idea that it was now OK to vote. He said, nothing has changed. Jehovah's Witnesses don't vote. However, there may be some circumstances that the government may require it. (So something did change.) He then referred back to a Watchtower article in 1950 that told how a certain government required that the witnesses vote--so the witnesses actually went to the voting booth, marked the ballot that they were voting for Christ Jesus and that way they felt they were fulfilling their obligation to both the God and to the State. That rang a bell for me because I started attending meetings in 1955 as a child and remember them talking about it.

  The CO went on to say that, if the government required it, that witnesses could do the same thing now. He went on to say that if your employer requires that you vote, then you should check with the elders and they would tell you what to do.

  I left the meeting very puzzled. I remembered that in the early 70's I wondered why the reasoning from that 1950 WT couldn't have been applied to the Malawi situation. I also remembered another African country, I think it was Rwanda, where witnesses refused to go to the voting booths and witnesses were beaten and raped as a result. The Watchtower highly praised their integrity. Does this seem like a double standard?

  My WT index lists an article on voting in 1950 on pages 445-6. Can anyone scan a copy of this?

  this morning at about 7:15 a pair of dubs came in and ordered one drip coffee to go and before she left she offered me the magazines [awake on top of the wt, just like i used to do].

  i politely refused-not interested/i've got customers, but inwardly i thought how rude to just flop those things out on my counter.

  at least her day's hours started early... maybe she won't have to go out on christmas.

  A couple of years ago my father was admitted to a nursing home about 20 miles from his congregation territory. A group of witnesses drove over to see him one Saturday morning. At first I thought, "How nice!" Then I noticed that they left the magazines on a table in the hallway of the facility. So that's how they stretched out their time that morning.

  have been gone from the board for a month or so, but i have read with great interest some of the stories about very recent "elder" schools from actual attendees.

  i thought some might like to know about my experience in one of these in the very early 70's.

  i was pioneering where the need was great (clinton, okla.) and was made assistant cong.

  i felt privileged to be invited to a special meeting which was earmarked only for publishers in good standing who had been baptized at least 25 years.

  i was baptized 28 years (yes i was quite young) and clyde was baptized 25, but he refused to go.

  it was all organization, organization, organization.
