Pg 8, Par 19: "Finally, we examined why Jesus’ arrival to appoint the faithful slave over all his belongings did not occur in 1919 but will take place during the great tribulation." Pg 23, Par 12: "In 1919, a time of spiritual revival, Jesus selected capable anointed brothers from among them to be the faithful and discreet slave and appointed them over his domestics." Pronomo - I found the first quote on page 16, par 19, but couldn't find the second quote. Was it in an earlier article?

Interesting experience while protesting at district conventions
by theron ware infor three weekends this summer, a friend and i protested outside district assemblies being held in the tucson convention center.
our approach was very low key and completely non-confrontational: we just held our posters and smiled.
this was our experience at the first two assemblies (for the third assembly, see the next paragraph).

The last DC I went to (about 2006), I saw some people with placards with words something like, "Jesus is the way, the truth and the life." I heard some witnesses comment that they were from the Devil.
I've often wondered what the reaction would be if a placard said, "Religion is a snare and a racket." That would probably be from the Devil too.

We cant control our urges
by moley inwhen i was about 15 i was made to go on the service with a super dub pioneer sister (you know the type, ugly with no dress sense and a wimp of a husband) and as it was the school holidays it was an all dayer (suit and tie in blazing hot sunshine) and she wanted to go back to her place for lunch, she made me sit in the garden while she ate inside as we could'nt be alone together because we might commit immorality (i would have rather cut it off).
has anyone else come across such stupid thinking within the borg.. p.s.
on the plus i side i got sunstroke in the afternoon, passed out cold.

No different than the Mormons. Clyde and I had two Mormon elders stop by. We were chatting on our front porch, and one asked if he could use the bathroom. I opened the door to take him inside and show him the way, but he said it was inappropriate. Clyde had to take him in.
OMG - I was probably 3 times his age.

It says in the Bible that no one knows the hour or the day " !!!! She looked a little shame faced when I asked if they had only just found this in the Bible , cus I thought that it had been there all along !
I remember prior to 1975 when Clye and I asked about the scripture about not knowing the hour or the day, the response was, "But it doesn't say we don't know the year."

Private meetings banned??
by franticfran ini have just spoken to a brother who is part of a group of single brothers and sisters who meet together once a week to discuss bible topics and he has been told by and elder that the organisation "banned" these private meetings years ago.
i told him i remember that article but he is adamant that the society would never do that (!
) now i am fairly sure i remember that article whether it was in a km or one of the mags i cant recall but i am sure i remember them saying we needed nothing more than the food that the slave class provided (another means to control us),does anyone have the details of that article because i have said i will find it and let him have it.

I remember it the same way as Blondie. Up to the early 80's, our congregation would regularly have meetings to study the Watchtower mostly for young people--on a Friday or Saturday night--so they would be prepared for Sunday. It was usually held in an elder's home, and they would usually have a few refreshments afterwards. Then the CO stopped the arrangement. I think many of the young people slowly lost an interest in the religion after that.

Small town community torn apart by sex scandal.
by Bonnie_Clyde inthis doesn't have anything to do with the witnesses.
but it's hard to believe these teachers would support a pedophile even if he was a "nice guy.

Pre-Paid Legal Services...many JWs market it
by Rufus T. Firefly indoes anyone know of any jws in the us who became involved in marketing pre-paid legal services?
i believe it is now known as legal shield..
-
Bonnie_Clyde
Pre-paid Legal (Legal Shield) is not a scam just because a few witnesses sell it. I know a few professional people (non JW) who sell it, and I have the product myself and have used it. Being in business, I can ask them to write a letter for me if I have a difficulty with a supplier or a client.

I wonder if the wts is quietly removing those who have past issues with this or any sexual / crimes / accusations - even if denied ? The position of minister is one loaded with power and anyone who would use it for their own purposes should never be allowed to be an elder again.
They made an "about-face" in our area. I have a relative who at age 15 molested a 7-year-old girl in the congregation. I won't go into all the details - it happened about 25 years ago--except the boy was accepted at Bethel after he graduated from HS with the blessing of his elder father. After he returned home, the BOE wanted to appoint him as an elder, but the mother of the molested girl threatened to go to the authorities. So the CO removed the dad as an elder because of his cover-up and refused to appoint the pedophile son.
A little over a year ago, a new CO came into the congregation, and guess what? Dad was re-appointed an elder, and the son is now a ministerial servant--I expect he will soon be an elder.
