One of the possible reasons why December 25th was chosen as Christ's birth was that some early Christians thought Jesus was conceived on March 25th - March, Spring, new life, God created the world then, day of a prophet's conception would be the day of his death (Jesus' conception day = his crucifixion day) - all sorts of symbolisms. -

i have been living under a rock obviously because i had no idea any change was about to happen.. now i am beginning to understand how it works, everything is ok or soon will be.
i like the like button and have already used it once.. now you understand why i left the borg.

Really? The fact that someone joined on April twenty fifth and not April twenty third is relevant how?
Even a month would help. How is a specific date relevant, you ask.
- Our journeys and posting histories are marked by the passage of time; by specific events in Watchtowerland and in our lives - a bit like having a date stamp on your photos, or by marking birthdays and anniversaries on a particular day. It's nice to note the day rather than the approximate month or year.
- Specific dates provide context to what was said and why it was said; sometimes even to what prompted someone to join; whether the person joined and then left it a few weeks before plucking up the courage to post. All valuable little insights into what makes somebody tick.
- Dates indicate how lively and intense a debate was.
- Our memories fade. Dates help in locating past posts and threads among the thousands on here. E.g. If there's a thread or post I'm looking for from '10 years ago' and there are so many hundreds of threads and thousands of posts from '10 years ago,' I could locate it faster if it was narrowed down to month or day, or if I knew it was from around the time of a convention, an AGM, a noteworthy news event, or a crazy WT article being published.

Sign-in fix for IE users
by Simon ini think i finally tracked down the bug that was affecting ie users - you should now be able to sign in and use the site.
i've only had chance to test with ie 11 but it should work with ie 10 as well, i'm not sure about ie 9 and ie 8 or older is doubtful.. fingers crossed we get some replies from ie'ers.
note: there may still be other issues but the first and biggest hurdle is getting signed on..

there is no chance of attempting to sign in using Opera mini.
Same here. No menu for signing in is available, nor 'Search,' nor any button on the top toolbar. Nor can I opt to cut out the thread previews like on a computer (Chrome). My phone's on Opera Mini 8 now (I had mistakenly said '5' on the other thread).
With JWN and Opera Mini 4, I could sign in and see all the sections. I couldn't post, but at least I could easily browse and read.

If you hover over the posters avatar you get their join date and post counts appear as a popup
I can't see a join date. Just a vague 'so many years/days ago.' It would be nice to have the specific dates back - on the posts too one day.
And thanks for the 'quote' button.

:) I like the look of it.
I like that, for the first time since joining, I've been able to update my email address and, for the first time in almost as many years, I can change my avatar.
My basic phone and its Opera Mini browser cannot cope as well with the new site, even with updating to Opera Mini 5 today. JWN was always 'read only' for me on there, but at least it was straight-forward to navigate around and most of the links worked. The 'menu' button at the top of the (mobile) page does nothing so I can't sign in on my phone any more or opt to view active topics. Maybe I can figure out a work-around.
What would be handy
It would be nice to have people's join dates and posting dates displayed again. '5 years ago,' 'a day ago' - too vague on its own.
I can't see a 'quote' button in the 'reply' box.

The pattern repeats. The delay of the eschatological end means focussing on building the Kingdom of God on earth with 'churches' and 'cathederals.'

The WTSs 2520 years did not commence at the same time as their 70 years
by Doug Mason inthe wts says that the 70 years began when the last jews entered egypt (7th month, feast of gedaliah), and that this final exodus took place in 607 bce.. they then say that jerusalem was destroyed 2 months earlier (5th month) and that this event marked the end of the davidic kingdom, which commenced the 2520 years.
on that basis, if my reading is correct, their 2520 years ended on the 5th month of 1914, not in october.. further confusion reigns, since according to parker and dubberstein, in 607 bce the babylonians inserted an intercalary second elul before tishri.
from memory, thiele says that jeremiah used the babylonian calendar.. i know that their chronology and eisgeses are totally fanciful; i am simply addressing the logic in the thinking that they appear to present.. i have elsewhere shown that it is more likely that the time fom the destruction of jerusalem to the exodus into egypt is more likely to have been at least 2 years, perhaps as long as 4, so i am not canvassing that issue here either.. doug.

Oh good grief, I must be half asleep!
I said,
As St. George said, the 2520 years commences when Zedekiah was removed. That period is to do with the absence of a Davidic king until Jesus' enthronement in 1914.
Yes, duh. You are right, Doug. There is an inconsistency. Zed removed 5th month, but 2520 years counted from 7th month, and Davidic kingdom restored 7th month.
